Entry list

[edit]

The entry list was revealed today, will try to add it as fast as possible. FstrthnU (talk) 17:04, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Its not a race. It should be added correctly, not first. The359 (Talk) 17:16, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New cars

[edit]

Many race fans are interested to know which race cars were introduced the first time at Le Mans. So why not write a short little chapters about race cars introduced in 2014? I think the chapter will make many readers happy. Thanks! --77.56.51.10 (talk) 17:59, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There's no point, because pretty much every car racing at Le Mans is new. Rarely do you see someone running exactly the same vehicle two years in a row. -- Scjessey (talk) 14:08, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Many of the cars also did not debut at Le Mans, they debuted at Silverstone or Spa. Just because they are new to Le Mans does not mean they are new in general, so it's a bit misleading to point them out as new cars. The359 (Talk) 14:38, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
By new I mean "a new model", so e.g. Ferrari 430 and then its successor 458. Easy. Second: It does not matter where they run first. It is just important for the fans of Le Mans which cars have had their premiere at Le Mans, all other events don't matter in this case. So PLEASE keep this chapter in. Why is this so hard to leave it in? THanks. --Indianapolis74 (talk) 22:19, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Other races do matter, and any fan of Le Mans would likely prefer correct information. All the cars you listed are not debuting at Le Mans. Just because this is the first LM in which they have participated does not make them notable enough for a stand out section.
Further, you should not continue to edit the article in an attempt to keep it your way while a discussion of the content is ongoing. The359 (Talk) 22:39, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong. Le Mans belongs without doubt to the biggest and most important motorsports event worldwide so it is very ok to mention new entries that race there for the first time. It is very sad that Wikipedia does not have a voting system where one can create a vote that would run for one month or until 1000 votes have been collected. Then the majority would win and the chapter would be written (or deleted). The way how Wikipedia works today is a bit strange. Just you can argue against my contribution and you of course think that your argument has more weight than mine... How comes! --Indianapolis74 (talk) 16:35, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No one is arguing that Le Mans is not the biggest event of the season. However, it is still part of a championship season, one of which is already two races old. It would be similar to listing all new cars at the Monaco Grand Prix, ignoring that all those cars have been competing elsewhere in the season long before Monaco. Further, since the LMP1 regulations for 2014 require everyone to build a new car, every car in the class is inherently new. Add to that the addition of the ZEOD, which is itself required to be a "car displaying new technologies" (CDNT), and its entry exists solely for this race, so inherently it has to be a new car. So making a seperate list of "new cars" to include this lot is redundant. The only truly new car is the Ligier JS P2, and we're not making a whole section of the article dedicated to one car.
You are right regarding LMP1. Each car is new there... but this is not the case each year. As said, for example Corvette C6.R raced for many years... And yes, let people contribute to the GP Monaco and list all new cars if they want. Redundancy is not an argument, as you would have to remove ALL descriptive text about the cars in the chapters as they are listed again in the entry list table... Many people want to have different views on the same thing, one is happy with the entry list only, another one prefers long texts where you hardly find the info you are looking for and the other one wants to browse new stuff only... So why do YOU think that your approach makes all users happy? You should be happy that there are people out there who want to contribute serious information. Let loose your pride, your ego as super-editor versus new users, make this step and add the chapter again please! And if you add it, please remove the Nissan ZEOD, that's really a special case as you mentioned (you might notice that I did not add that one, someone else contributed it). THANKS FOR ADDING THE CHAPTER! --77.56.51.10 (talk) 22:03, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Several people are arguing against your position, and are in agreement with each other. It is called a WP:CONSENSUS. Votes do not encourage agreement amongst all parties. The359 (Talk) 17:01, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You call two people with the same opinion consensus? You're a funny person :-) Or do you think that you count as 500 newbee votes and the other one as well? Great.... --77.56.51.10 (talk) 21:54, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is a stupid discussion. There's no consensus to include a new car section. It would violate WP:WEIGHT as well as misrepresenting what "new" actually means. And edit warring this amateur-hour garbage into the article is totally unacceptable. -- Scjessey (talk) 00:31, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (Type 991)

[edit]

Wouldn't it be worth mentioning the type of the porsche cars? Porsche lists their 911 models as 911 GT3 RSR (Type 997) oder (Type 991). See official website. --Indianapolis74 (talk) 09:40, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is no such thing as a 911 GT3 RSR Type 991. The 991 models are 911 RSRs, they are not homologated on the, yet to exist, GT3 model. The wikilinks also direct to the correct version of the 911. The359 (Talk) 17:44, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regulation changes in LMP1

[edit]

Shouldn't there be a mention of the regulation changes in LMP1, and the introduction of LMP1-H & LMP1-L. I know these are mentioned in the 2014 FIA WEC article, but I think this belongs on the Le Mans page also, since a lot of people would only be looking at the 24 H, not the championship, and in the past, regulation changes that affect Le Mans and a championship have still been mentioned on the Le Mans race page, for eg 2011.

  • "..in the second session, followed by Nakajima in the No. 7 Toyota in second. The No. 3 Audi of Marco Bonanomi was within a second of the top time, while the fastest Porsche was over a second and a half behind Buemi's lap." Immediately followed by this, which repeats "second" (in two meanings) quite a few times quickly. Might be largely unavoidable, but if it can be adjusted, that'd be great.
