Rotary SWIM, invented by S. Mann in the 1960s and 1970s, is commonly used in research and teaching, to see and photograph the rotating magnetic field of a motor.

Here we see the three capabilities of SWIM: live display of text, graphics (plotted functions) and images such as the graticule and the "center" symbol image.
