Errejón affair
The Errejón affair is the name by which the allegations of sexual harassment against Sumar Spanish politician Íñigo Errejón and its consequences. As a result of the accusations, Errejón announced his abandonment of politics and his resignation as a deputy in the Congress of Deputies. At least two of the women who denounced Errejón announced that they had filed complaints with the National Police Corps.
Affair
[edit]On 24 October 2024, Errejón published a letter on Twitter where he announced his abandonment of institutional politics, leaving also his seat in Congress and all his political responsibilities. This announcement followed an anonymous accusation made two days earlier on journalist Cristina Fallarás' Instagram account where he was accused of sexually harassing several women.[1][2][3][4] Errejón's deputy seat was given to the next candidate on the list, Alda Recas.[5] Based on the accusation, the press uncovered other also anonymous accounts.[6][7][8] The following day, on 25 October, actress Elisa Mouliaá denounced Errejón before the National Police Corps for sexual assault based on events that took place in 2021.[9] On 29 October, public figure Aída Nízar did the same about a harassment in 2015.[10] There was also an anonymous account in the middle of the electoral campaign for the 2023 general election about harassment in Castellón. Although it had no media transcendence, Podemos claimed to have "communicated" it to Sumar at the time.[11] The Errejón Case unleashed a political crisis within the Spanish left-wing, especially in the face of suspicions of cover-up.[12][13][14]
