Sy Chatman (born July 8, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for the Iowa Wolves of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Buffalo Bulls men's basketball, Illinois State Redbirds and the UMass Minutemen basketball.
Early life and high school career
[edit]In April 2018, Chatman signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the 2018-2019 season after averaging 17.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists for Cretin-Derham Hall High School where he led them to a Minnesota State High School League championship title. He also played AAU basketball for the Howard Pulley Panthers.[1]
College career
[edit]At the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Chatman appeared in 29 games his freshman season and started in four. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.[2]
In January 2022, Chatman was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after averaging 22.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. This was his first career Player of the Week honor.[3] During his time at Illinois State, he played in 20 games with 18 starts for the season before suffering a season ending knee injury.[4]
In June 2022, Chatman transferred to University at Buffalo for the 2022-2023 season.[5] In the 2022-2023 season, Chatman redshirted for the season.[6]
Professional career
[edit]After going undrafted, Chatman played in the 2024 NBA Summer League for the Denver Nuggets.[7]
Iowa Wolves (2024–present)
[edit]In October 2024, Chatman was drafted by the Iowa Wolves as the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NBA G League draft.[8]
