Matild Palace is a Budapest-based hotel under The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts, representing Hungarian heritage.[1][2][3][4][1] Headquartered in Turkey and owned by Özyer Group,[5][6][7] Matild Palace operates under the flagship of Melden Group.[8][9][10]

History

Matild Palace was built during the Belle Epoque era in 1902,[11][12] by Hungarian-German architect Kálmán Giergl[10] and Floris Korb[7] under the patronage of Her Imperial and Royal Highness Maria Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha,[13][14] Archduchess of Austria.[5][15][6][16]

In June 2021,[11][17] it was redesigned into a hotel under The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott International, by interior designer Maria Vafiadis of MKV Design[18][19][7][2] and local architects Péter Dajka and Puhl Antal. It was originally used to host cafes, galleries, and residential apartments for the public.[15][4]

In 2021, Matild Palace partnered with Austrian chef Wolfgang Puck Spago[9] of Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group. The Group oversees the entire dining operations at the restored Palace, including Spago restaurant.[20] It runs three restaurants: Spago by Wolfgang Puck Budapest, Matild Café and Cabaret, and The Duchess Rooftop Terrace.[21][4]

Matild Palace was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.[15][19][12][7][2] It consists of 111 rooms, with many overlooking the Danube River,[6][17] using the Elisabeth Bridge,[13][14] 19 suites[16][8][18][3] including the signature Crown Tower Suite and Maria Klotild Royal Suite.[5]
