  2. ^ Gardiner was a sitting Councillor representing the St Mary's ward. She replaced Cllr. Amanda Linton after her resignation in 1996[4]

  4. ^ Wakefield replaced Cllr. John P. Ryan after his resignation in 1995. Wakefield was elected as a Labour councillor bust since then was not selected to represent Labour in this election[4]
