Grace Wamue Ngare
Grace Wamue-Ngare is an Associate Professor of Gender and Development Studies, and Director, Centre for Gender Equity and Empowerment at Kenyatta University, Kenya. Grace is a consultant and trainer in the gender discourse with skills in gender training and developing research tools for evidence and action based gender data generation and analysis.
Early Life
Grace W. Ngare was born on 7th June 1964.[1][2]
Education
Grace completed a Bachelor of Education (Arts) Hons in 1984 from, University of Nairobi, Kenya. In 1989, She received a Master of arts in African Culture and Religion from Kenyatta University. In 1999, she completed a Her Ph.D. in Gender, Religion and Culture, at Kenyatta University. [1]
Career
Her career begun as a tutorial fellow in 1989 at the, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Kenyatta University. It was at Kenyatta University, in that she rose to the rank of Associate Professor, Department of Gender and Development Studies in 2015.
Grace focuses on gender integration in agricultural value chains, gender analysis and mapping. In 2015/2016, she served as a gender advisor, trainer and offered the gender strategy for the projects within for NARO- Uganda, KALRO-Kenya , PABRA, CIAT). Through value chain gender mapping, Grace leads research teams in identifying barriers and constraints that militate against women and youth benefiting from scientific agricultural innovations. She is CO-PI and gender advisor in the European Union LEAP-Agri on Phenotyping The Banana Biodiversity To Identify Climate Smart Varieties With Optimal Market Potential In Africa and Europe(CLISMABAN). Prof. Ngare is the current Director for the Centre for Gender Equity and Empowerment – at Kenyatta University. Her key role has been setting the gender strategy for the University linking the Management, Faculty, Support Staff, Students , Local and International partners on gender matters. The CGEE is the axle through which the gender mainstreaming wheel rotates at KU. Grace is a distinguished scholar, author and researcher who has received numerous grants and awards from major funding bodies such as European Union- LEAP Agri (Sustainable agriculture); Norwegian Church Aid (Tamar Campaign Model to address SGBV in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); Association of African Universities (AAU)( Micro-Finance), Association of Common Wealth Universities; National Council for Science and Technology (NCST)( Gender Responsive food production); Lake Victoria Basin Research Initiative and the Organization of Social Science Research in East Africa (OSSREA). Grace is an alumnus of SOAS, Global Women Leadership Network (GWLN) and a celebrated Course Leader/trainer for the International program “Being a Leader and the Effective Exercise of Leadership, an Ontological/Phenomenological Model”. She has been a recipient of the Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies Visiting Fellow Program 2018/2019. [2]
