A guest of honor (GoH; British English: guest of honour) is a person who is invited to attend a convention, and is listed publicly on convention fliers and other materials. The guest usually has their transportation and lodging costs picked up by the convention, and in turn agrees to participate in certain panels and/or events that are hosted by the convention. This often includes a lunch with pre-registered high-level sponsors.
Guests of honor are often one (or more) of the following:
The more popular that a particular guest is, the bigger their "draw" is, in terms of getting people to attend the convention. However, conventions may also invite guests to celebrate their contributions to the fandom, even if their presence is not likely to improve attendance.
