Furfags.com opened on May 1st, 2006, originally as a showcase gallery for Baron Von Yiffington's photography. On May 23rd, the site expanded to host a Phpbb2 message board, along with a satire wiki, which closed within the month due to lack of interest.
The photo gallery was closed on August 2007 after about four months of no updates. The reason cited by the Baron Von Yiffington was that:

On June 10th, 2009, Baron Von Yiffington announced the site's closure to be on November 26th, 2009. The reasons cited by Baron was:
| Quite honestly, there just isn't any life in it anymore. It started off great - and I'm glad it lasted as long as it did. It's been quite a trip between this site and I, and it taught me just about everything I know regarding the internet, FTP, HTML and inspired me to pick up and learn Flash and PHP. Quite frankly, I'm just not intrested in trying to keep the site alive. It's worked a little over it's life span, but never did we really reach a popularity worth mentioning. Yeah, being popular isn't all that matters, but really, after three years, it never extended past me and a few friends as users. It's been kicking it's legs and waving it's arms for all that time, trying to attract people. I've poured about 200$ in hosting fees, 18$ in domain name fees and probably about another 200$ in advertising - it doesn't sound like a lot, but hey, that's money I can put towards my other projects that might actually have a chance at living. |
Enhancements and new content[edit]
On January 21, 2008, the old Phpbb2 board replaced with a brand new Phpbb3 board, followed by the addition of a phproxy webproxy in February of 2008, which is linked to the home page, but hosted on a different domain. The forum's Phpbb3 board continued to be updated, once on March, and again in June of 2008.
The beginnings of a WinFuzz MUCK never went beyond the planning stage, though the admin says he will return to it.[1]
Rules[edit]
Furfags.com had two simple rules of conduct:
- 1. Don't be a fucking idiot.
- 2. No porn/pronz/smut/yiff, etc.
Infractions were ruled case by case, and subject to a "three strike" system, using phpBB3's "warning" feature. Users receiving three warnings were banned for life.
Anti-furry label[edit]
Despite the use of the term Furfag on its title, and the occasional forum topics and/or anti-fur activity, its staff claim it was not an anti-furry site[2].
