Installation instructions

Directions relating to Linux are reasonably well advanced, however work is required to bring Windows and Mac OS X up to a similar level of completeness .. any takers? Robbiemorrison (talk) 06:54, 30 June 2010 (UTC

Please, do not create pages which are mere copies of GLPK distribution files. This would violate the copyright if authorization to do so is not granted by the authors. Xypron (talk) 05:52, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello Xypron, I found these logs useful to have as part of the Wikibook (even though I can easily 'less' the original files). Could we not seek permission from Andrew Makhorin (who I guess is the copyright holder)? Or is there another reason for not making announce notices and change logs widely visible? Robbiemorrison (talk) 12:02, 11 July 2010 (UTC) (ps: I now have copies of the wiki markup in case we decide to retreat).Reply
Hello Robbie, the content of the change log is often quite technical, e.g. "The module glpenv was split into two modules glpenv and glplib." I guess the files ChangeLog and NEWS should be analyzed to see which new topics would fit into this wikibook. E.g. "Made changes to allow comment records in CSV files." could give the authors a hint to create or update a page on handling CSV files. -- Xypron (talk) 17:59, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hello Xypron: I agree the change log is highly technical and I almost never refer to it. But the release announcements (the NEWS file) have been very useful for me, particularly as the API evolves. I keep track of the API developments and document my backward compatibility in relation to GLPK (currently at 4.42). These issues would also apply for those maintaining language bindings.
In any case, we should wait a little and see what responses appear on 'help-glpk' in relation to this matter. If Andrew agrees to allow "publication", then I think the release announcements should go back on to the wikibook. Robbiemorrison (talk) 08:24, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
