Etymology

Originally the adverbial form (< *vēli) of a palatalized i-stem parallel form of the u-stem adjective vēls (q.v.) (< *vēlus; cf. pronunciation [væ̂ls] with [æ], instead of the [ɛ] in the adverb [vɛ̂l]). Cognates include Lithuanian vė̃l (again).[1]
