edittsin (“wood”) ííʼá (“it sticks up”) -ii (nominalizing suffix)
Noun
editUsage notes
editWhile this can be used to mean tree in some instances, such as specifying a standing tree as opposed to a log or other wood lying on the ground, it is not normally used to mean tree. Instead, Navajo requires the species of tree to be used. For example, tʼiis (cottonwood).
