Japhug

edit

Etymology

edit

Cognate with Tshobdun tɐ́ŋɐ (sun).[1] Sometimes thought to be related to Tibetan ཉི་མ (nyi ma, sun; day), Burmese နေ (ne, sun) (hence from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-nəj (sun, day)),[2] but Guillaume Jacques disputes this and instead proposes that it is related to qarŋe (to be yellow).[3]
