Etymology

edit

Formally from Arabic صَمِيم (ṣamīm, marrow, core)-i, although likely formed by re-interpretation of Ottoman or Old Anatolian Turkish صمیم قلب دن (samim-i kalbden, from the inner of the heart; sincerely), where the -i is the Ottoman style izafet of the Arabic مِنْ صَمِيمِ ٱلْقَلْبِ (min ṣamīmi l-qalbi) with similar meaning; the izafet was then re-analyzed as the adjective-forming suffix rather than nominal compound linking element. See Turkish samimi.
