editFrom Middle English [Term?], from Old English reġnwyrm, from Proto-Germanic [Term?]. Analysable as rain worm, because the worm has the habit of surfacing on top of the saturated soil after rainfall. Cognate with Dutch regenworm, Old High German reganwurm, whence German Regenwurm.
