hirvas
Finnish
editEtymology
editFrom Proto-Finnic *hirvas, borrowed from Proto-Balto-Slavic *śirwas. Cognate with Northern Sami sarvvis, which must have either been borrowed directly from Balto-Slavic or (more likely) come via Finnic before *š became h.
