gâcher
See also: gacher
French
editEtymology
editInherited from Middle French gascher (“to waste, row”), from Old French gaschier, gacher, gasser (“to soil, spoil, waste”) and gaschier, guaschier, waschier (“to wash, soak”), both from Frankish *waskan, *wascōn (“to wash, bathe”), from Proto-Germanic *waskaną (“to wash”), from Proto-Indo-European *wod- (“wet”). Compare related Italian guazzare (“to splash, wallow”), from the same Germanic root. Cognate with Old English wasċan (“to wash”). More at wash.
