Borrowed from Latin Aeduī, from Ancient Greek Αἰδούοι (Aidoúoi), from a Celtic/Gaulish name meaning "burning men," from Proto-Celtic *aidos, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eydʰ- (fire). Related to Old Irish áed (fire).
