editFrom Malay bukti, from Sanskrit भुक्ति (bhukti, “possession”), व्यक्त (vyakta, “evident”), युक्त (yukta, “proper”). Cognate in Old Javanese byakta, wyakti. The term is used for translation on semantic loan from Dutch bewijs in law terms.
