Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بللی (belli, known, perceptible, certain), from Proto-Turkic *bẹlgülig (manifest), from Proto-Turkic *bẹlgü (sign), a derivation of Proto-Turkic *bẹl- (to denote, to designate).[1] Cognate with Azerbaijani bəlli, Chuvash паллӑ (pallă, sign, label, mark, estimate), Yakut бэлиэ (belie, sign, symbol), and Karakhanid بَلْكُلُكْ (belgülüg, manifest).
