Etymology

Back-formation from arányoz (“to arrange according to ratio)”). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries. The obsolete verb arányoz is from an unattested stem -ány (noun-forming suffix) ‎ -oz (verb-forming suffix). Doublet of irány.
