Etymology
editFrom Middle French académie, from Latin acadēmīa, from Ancient Greek Ἀκαδημία (Akadēmía), a grove of trees and gymnasium outside of Athens where Plato taught; from the name of the supposed former owner of that estate, the Attic hero Akademos. Compare academe, academia, Akademeia.

- Ik was op de Koninklijke Militaire Academie in Bandung, voor twee jaar. Maar het is natuurlijk zo dat men niet op een koninklijke academie kan leren hoe men een leger in een revolutionaire situatie kan opbouwen. Dat heb ik later wel, min of meer via lectuur, een beetje doorgedacht, tijdens de Japanse bezetting.
- I was at the Royal Military Academy in Bandung for two years. But the thing is, of course, that one cannot learn at a royal academy how to build up an army in a revolutionary situation. I did think that through somewhat, more or less by reading, a bit later, during the Japanese occupation.
