editInherited from Old Punjabi ਧੀਅ (dhīa), from Paisaci Prakrit [Term?] (compare Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀥𑀻𑀤𑀸 (dhīdā)), from Sanskrit दुहितृ (duhitṛ). Cognate with poetic Hindi धिया (dhiyā) and Southern Hindko تہی (thī).
