editFrom Middle Hindi تیتری (tytry /tītrī/)[1] / تتری (titrī),[2] from Prakrit 𑀢𑀺𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀺𑀭𑀺 (tittiri), ultimately from Sanskrit तित्तिर (tittirá).[3] Dasa, Qureshi relate it to تِیتَر (tītar, “partridge”).[4][5]
