باریک
Persian
editAlternative forms
edit- بارک (bârek)
Etymology
editFrom Middle Persian bʾlyk (bārīg/k, “thin, fine subtle”). Akin to Old Armenian բարակ (barak), an Iranian borrowing. One of a few adjectives that has preserved the final -g/k phoneme and did not undergo the regular sound change from Middle Persian to Modern Persian. Others include تاریک (târik, “dark”) and نزدیک (nazdik, “near”). Composed of Middle Persian bʾl (bār, “bank, river / lake bank”) Middle Persian yk (īg, “suffix forming adjectives of relation, etc.”). For proposed etymology of Middle Persian bʾl (bār, “bank, river / lake bank”), refer to Persian بار (bār, “bank, river / lake bank, shore”).
