From Common Turkic *esen,[1] claimed to be from Middle Persian 𐭠𐭮𐭠𐭭 (ʾsʾn /⁠āsān⁠/) by Doerfer,[2] but this is disputed by Clauson.[1] Cognates with Turkish esen.
