1. (sometimes followed by då) Expresses mild disappointment or (sometimes bashful) dismissal; shucks

   Äsch, bollen missade hålet

   Shucks, the ball missed the hole

   – Modigt att dra ut tanden! – Äsch, det kändes knappt.

   – Brave of you to have the tooth pulled! – Shucks, I barely felt it.

   – Du är bäst i världen! – Äsch då.

   – You're the best person in the world! – Aw shucks.

Usage notes

Less colloquial compared to shucks.
