This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Poetry. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Poetry|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Poetry. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Comment. I deprodded this, but on further investigation it looks like it has been written by a combination of SPA/IP/the subject. There's a profile in NYT (Cohen, Joyce. Away From the Hammer and Quiet Enough for Poetry: He had been thinking Brooklyn, but he found what he wanted in Queens. New York Times. 8/13/2017, Vol. 166 Issue 57688, p4), which looks to be in the property section and doesn't address his poetry more than in passing; also a Proquest copy of the article Oaktree b mentions above (Hamlet, Isaac. Iowa poet goes from pigs to pearls. Press - Citizen Iowa City, Iowa. 10 Aug 2019: A.2.); I also found one sort-of-review piece quoting him with brief bio material (Working Out What to Do in the Hamptons This Summer? Tauer, Kristen, Nordstrom, Leigh, Wally, Maxine, Women's Wear Daily (May 24, 2019): 17). Not found much else on Ebsco/Proquest that isn't just him as an agent/editor. Poetry collections are notoriously sparsely reviewed and awards are often more important in this area, but I'm not familiar with the US minor poetry awards. With three different bits of press, plus the review in the article, and the award, I'd generally be leaning keep, but in view of the promotional history here, I'm undecided, willing to be persuaded either way. I normally try and keep poets and poetry articles if I can as I believe they exhibit the height of human creativity and expression, living a life in a garret and suffering to express, that all denote notability even if only spoken off. Choosing that life is an aspect as well, which is important. However it is a BLP and there must be something there. The award has been given to few very famous individuals but didn't see him listed either on Wikipedia article or the actual site and couldn't find any other Steinback award for poetry. There is a fiction award, and a fellowship award but couldn't identify him. That was reason I sent up to Afd and didn't think he was notable and still don't. scope_creep^Talk 11:03, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kelly Le Fave

Subject is not notable; fails WP:GNG. I did a WP:BEFORE search, as well as searched through the Internet Archive book search and ProQuest, and found nothing but trivial mentions of her name, and her own works. The only thing I've found that could be considered "significant" coverage is the short bio page from Image (journal) that is already in the External links section [2] (And the same page live on the web [3]) However, according to that page, she published her poems in that publication, making that source not independent of the subject. Aniqah Choudhri

The subject does not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline as significant coverage by reliable, independent sources is limited. While Aniqah Choudhri won a notable poetry prize and has some publication credits, the article lacks substantial third-party sources that provide in-depth coverage of her life and career. Delete The necessary sources are not there. We get a review in a reader-created, online text; routine announcements by booksellers, such as this; the Tribune "about" page on our subject in her capacity as a journalist in its staff; a couple of articles written by our subject, here and here; and so on. Keep. Passes criteria 4c of WP:NAUTHOR as the recipient of two poetry prizes. That is enough critical attention as an author to pass that WP:SNG criteria in my opinion. Also the verifiability issues are over-stated here, because the non-independent sources being used are doing so in compliance with WP:ABOUTSELF. 4meter4, poetry prizes are a dime a dozen, as surely you are aware. Winning ten prizes in poetry mean next to nothing if the awards are not important/notable enough. In my neck of the woods, they have monthly competitions in short stories and poetry, but I assure you none of the winners merits a Wikipedia article.
