Romanization for words of English origin
editOn the MOS:JP talk page, a discussion has been started about including or not including romanizations for words of English origin, such as Fainaru Fantajī in Final Fantasy (ファイナルファンタジー, Fainaru Fantajī) (for the sake of simplicity, I called this case "words of English origin", more information on semantics here).
Over the course of a month, it has become apparent that both the parties proposing to include or not include those romanizations cannot be convinced by the arguments or guidelines brought up by the other side. Therefore, a compromise is trying to be found that will satisfy both parties. One suggestion on a compromise has been given already, but it has not found unanimous agreement, so additional compromises are encouraged to be suggested.
One universally accepted point was to bring more users from the affected projects in to help achieve consensus, and you were one of those selected in the process.
What this invitation is:
- You should give feedback on the first suggested compromise and are highly encouraged to provide other solutions.
What this invitation is not:
- This is not a vote on including or excluding such romanizations.
- This is not a vote on compromises either.
It would be highly appreciated if you came over to the MOS:JP talk page and helped find a solution. Thank you in advance. Prime Blue (talk) 11:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

The posting system is a baseball player transfer system which operates between Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and the United States' Major League Baseball (MLB). Despite the drafting of the United States – Japanese Player Contract Agreement in 1967 designed to regulate NPB players moving to MLB, problems arose in the late 1990s. Some NPB teams lost star players without compensation, an issue highlighted when NPB stars Hideo Nomo and Alfonso Soriano left to play in MLB after using loopholes to void their existing contracts. A further problem was that NPB players had very little negotiating power if their teams decided to deal them to MLB. In 1998, the Agreement was rewritten to address both problems and was dubbed the "posting system". Under this system, when an NPB player is "posted", MLB holds a four-day-long silent auction during which MLB teams can submit sealed bids in an attempt to win the exclusive rights to negotiate with the player. If the MLB team with the winning bid and the NPB player agree on contract terms before the 30-day period has expired, the NPB team receives the bid amount as a transfer fee, and the player is free to play in MLB. Orphaned non-free image File:Rakuteneagleslogo.gif
editThanks for uploading File:Rakuteneagleslogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Template
editThe only reason things should be broken is if a page uses those reviews. That they use them is no excuse to keep the status quo. There is a way to add a depracation, but I'm not sure how to do it. The bottom line though is that coding should be gone because this timeplate is suppose to only house reliable sources because its used on article [ages as a reliable review summary.

Request, or favor, or however you want to put it
editGood evening good sir. I have a favor to ask. I am in the midst of re-vamping the article hitting for the cycle, in part splitting out the list of MLB players to its own list in order to make an actual article on the cycle proper. I want this cycle article to include something of a world view instead of just MLB. I know that you are the resident NPB expert, and I have been trying to find information on NPB players to hit for the cycle. I just don't know where to find source info, and I figured you might know better than I. The most recent cycle I found was Julio Zuleta's on September 23, 2007. Are there any more recent, and are there sources? Would you mind just helping me out in finding some of that info (if you can)? Let me know on my talk page. If you want to view the current draft, it is here. Thank you in advance! — KV5 • Talk • 01:33, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Hello. You have a new message at Killervogel5's talk page. — KV5 • Talk • 00:24, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
I see your cycle list. Coming along well. I've completed my work and moved my pages into the mainspace. When you complete your list of NPB cycles, please add it to the "see also" section and the hatnote of Hitting for the cycle. It would also really be great if you would add some info about the players to do unique things with cycles, especially those who have hit multiples. Cheers! — KV5 • Talk • 13:48, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Yes, yes, yes! Wonderful work. That adds so much to the article. I'm really tickled at how well this is coming along. — KV5 • Talk • 11:06, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
Have you thought about taking the NPB cycle list to WP:FLC? It would only need a few tweaks to get there. You definitely have some good pictures to choose from. I'd be willing to help with the prep work if you like. — KV5 • Talk • 23:35, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- I've been thinking of taking the article Hitting for the cycle to GA. You certainly deserve credit for all the NPB work you put in. If the NPB list goes through FLC, we'd have a nice, compact featured topic candidate. If you don't want to do the FLC work, let me know because I would be happy to take it through the paces, with your leave of course. — KV5 • Talk • 13:13, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
- I would love to make the NPB a FL, but unfortunately I'm a bit worried about the quality of the sources. Since the cycle is a fairly new idea for the NPB, they don't really have any official lists on their site. I'm confident all of my info in that article is accurate, but the source to back it up may not be up to snuff. Feel free to take a look though and tell me what you think. I could try to find a few more reliable sources in the meantime. --TorsodogTalk 20:14, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I see what you mean. That source doesn't really have any backup for its data. Not saying that it's incorrect, but I see that you maybe wouldn't want to take that to FLC. Is there an equivalent of Retrosheet for Japanese baseball, that you could look up the box scores? — KV5 • Talk • 20:19, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Hey, first of all I just wanted to thank you for all the great work you have done of the Japanese baseball pages. I`m just starting on Wikipedia and have been doing a little work on the Yokohama DeNA BayStars page. I noticed that the uniform graphic for the is out of date. - I agree that the boundaries are larger than the city defines because the neighborhood has expanded into the south loop area in 1980 with China Square and the parks. I adjusted the map and gave it timeline boundaries outlines. --Nickvet419 (talk) 23:24, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Star Wars: Episode I: Battle for Naboo
editThis is a note to let the main editors of Star Wars: Episode I: Battle for Naboo know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on December 18, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/December 18, 2011. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:
Star Wars: Episode I: Battle for Naboo is an arcade-style action game co-developed by Factor 5 and LucasArts. It is a spiritual sequel to the successful Star Wars: Rogue Squadron released two years earlier. Despite the similarities between the two games, the development team designed a new game engine for Battle for Naboo and included land- and water-based combat in addition to aerial combat. Set in the fictional Star Wars galaxy, the game takes place during the events depicted in the film Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Players control Gavyn Sykes, a lieutenant in Naboo's Royal Security Forces. As the game progresses, Sykes and the Royal Security Forces fight the Trade Federation in 15 missions that take place on Naboo or in the space immediately surrounding it. The game concludes after the player completes a mission that recreates the film's climactic assault on the Trade Federation's Droid Control Ship. Battle for Naboo was published by LucasArts and THQ and released for the Nintendo 64 in December 2000. A Windows port was released three months later in March 2001. The Nintendo 64 version received generally positive reviews; critics praised the game's tight and responsive controls, but expressed dislike for the game's Episode I setting. (more...)

Tokyo is the most populated of Japan's 47 prefectures. In Tokyo, there are 47 buildings and structures that stand taller than 180 metres (591 ft). The tallest structure in the prefecture is Tokyo Sky Tree, a lattice tower that rises 634 metres (2,080 ft), which was completed in 2012. It also stands as the tallest structure in Japan, the tallest tower in the world and the 2nd-tallest freestanding structure in the world. The tallest building and third-tallest overall structure in Tokyo is the 248-metre-tall (814 ft) Midtown Tower, which was completed in 2007. The prefecture's second tallest building is the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which rises 48 stories and 243 metres (797 ft) in height. Overall, of the 25 tallest buildings and structures in Japan, 17 are in Tokyo. Skyscrapers are a relatively recent phenomenon in Japan. Due to aesthetic and engineering concerns, Japan's Building Standard Law set an absolute height limit of 31 metres until 1963, when the limit was abolished in favor of a Floor Area Ratio limit.

Dear Torsodog, Thanks for your edits on 2012 Japan Series. I made a few edits to the page before you began, going by Japanese and English sources. I realize now I made some mistakes (which you corrected), one of which was the score (it wasn't a 2-0 shutout; the Giants won 4-3). I made my first edit after looking at a Japanese-language source, then changed it (the score) after looking at an English source that was in error. Take care, and happy editing!Minusminority (talk) 04:12, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Stargate pinball flyer.JPG
editThanks for uploading File:Stargate pinball flyer.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. File permission problem with File:Bean3.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Bean3.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:50, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

The article Hiromi Matsunaga (baseball) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

"legume-like"
editYour reversion of my editing out the words "legume-like" in the description of the Cloud Gate sculpture is counterproductive. In this instance "legume" is not descriptive of a bean shape as you so earnestly desire. Legumes comprise one of the largest families of flowering plants, numbering some 400 genera and 10,000 species. Alfalfa, clover, peas, beans, lentils, soybeans, peanuts, wisteria vines and locust trees are among the family. To quote Wikipedia itself, "A legume (/ˈlɛɡjuːm/ or /ˌləˈɡjuːm/) is a plant in the family Fabaceae (or Leguminosae), or the fruit or seed of such a plant."
While a limited world view might associate legumes only with beans, this is patently not the case. Does "the bean" resemble anything other than a bean? It's called "the bean" because of its bean-like shape, if anything. But why "bean-like" shape? It's called the bean because of its shape. Imho, adding superfluous (and especially erroneous) explanation to a simple statement needlessly complicates the matter. Nickrz (talk) 17:40, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:47, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Hitting for the cycle
editHi - a quick note in follow-up to the revert of edits to Hitting for the cycle, as I would like to re-edit in a manner that will be more acceptable. You had noted "removing non from lead, changing the definition of a hit single, removing inline refs" and I wanted to get brief clarification on those:
- Did you perhaps mean NPB in lead? I'm concerned that the NPB info on the page is quite stale, so wanted to group it in one place and flag it as needing an update.
- I had removed the quote of Rule 6.09(a), which is about the batter becoming a runner... should that be left in? I ask because I felt it was off-target; otherwise, I don't think my edit changed the definition of a single (or if it did, it wasn't intentional).
- I'll be more careful about updating rather than remove inlines.
Any input appreciated, as I would like to continue to improve the page. Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk)

Please attribute or claim media you uploaded or restored: File:Rokusho Shrine, Okazaki.jpg
editYou uploaded or restored , File:Rokusho Shrine, Okazaki.jpg, but for various reasons did not add an {{information}} block, or indicate your (user) name on the file description page. Media uploaded to Wikipedia needs information on the SPECIFIC authorship and source of files, to ensure that it complies with copyright laws in various jurisdictions.
If it's entirely your own work:
please include {{own}} in the relevant source field, amend the {{information}} added by a third party, ensuring that your user name (or name you want used for attribution) is clear in the author field, and change the license to an appropriate "self" variant (if such a license is not already used). You should also add an |author= parameter to the license tag, to assist reviews and image patrollers.
- If the {{media by uploader}} tag is present please add, a
|claimed=yes
parameter to the tag. - If the {{img-unclaimed}} tag is present, please change it to {{img-claimed}}
If it's not entirely your own work, or the media is based on the work of others:
Please update the source and authorship fields, so that they accurately reflect the source and authors of the original work(s), as well as the derivative you created. You should also not use a "self" license unless the work is entirely you own. Media that is incorrectly claimed as self or {{own}}, will eventually be listed at Files for Discussion or deleted, unless it's full status is entirely clear to other contributors, reviewers and image patrollers. You should also read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission which details how to confirm any permissions you obtained for works by others that are still in copyright.
Whilst this notification, relates to a single media upload, it would also be appreciated if you could ensure that appropriate attribution exists for other media you uploaded, You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If media is not claimed, and there's no other obvious source or authorship information, the file may have to be removed for copyright reasons.
It's okay to remove or strike messages like this once the concerns have been addressed. :). ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 14:27, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi. File:Rokusho Shrine, Okazaki.jpg is the only remaining image in Category:Unclaimed images thought to be uploader. I wonder if you could edit the file description to make it clear that you are the author, if you are, or otherwise who is? If you could add a date for the photograph being taken (approximate if necessary) that would be helpful too. Thanks. -- Begoon 04:29, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

editGoogle Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
editHello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].
Thank you!

NPB Colouring
editHi there, I think you've played around with the NPB colouring. It has upset the templates because now text is white against white. Could you please fix this? I don't have the confidence to do it myself. This is mainly for the Template:Chunichi Dragons roster navbox and other Dragons related boxes I've created. I'd also like to add that the new colour scheme looks very iffy on player pages too.Cynikles (talk) 23:28, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- It didn't really upset the template, I just inverted the colors. If you don't like it though, I can change it. --TorsodogTalk 01:38, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- I appreciate you switching it back. It ended up with white font against a white background with the inverted scheme. Thank you. Cynikles (talk) 02:27, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. My bad! Thanks for pointing that out! --TorsodogTalk 03:24, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of 2021 Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles season
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on 2021 Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles season, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Portland Mavericks
editThis is vandalism of the legitimate page of the Portland Mavericks for an unknown individual's use as a promo to trade on the legitimate professional ball club's history to promote a fake adult amateur baseball league. It makes no difference whatsoever if an opportunistic party "copyrighted" the name Portland Mavericks. They may not tie their copyright to the players and staff of the actual Portland Mavericks who existed only from 1973-1977. This is misrepresentation of the facts, used for crass commercial purposes. For the record, the Portland Mavericks were a team owned By Bing & Kurt Russell. That team ceased to exist after the 1977 season. No individual can warrant or represent that a fictitious team (who exist on social media only) said to be based in Keizer, Oregon, has any connection to the actual Portland, Mavericks whose history of ownership and dissolution is well documented both in legitimate press sources as well as a documentary made by the Russell family seen at the Sundance Film Festival and on Netflix.
- Previous comment by BINGRUSSELL, I'm hoping that a bot will stop by and insert proper signature.
- You'll probably see the ping, Torsodog, but for the record, I’ve started a section at Talk:Portland Mavericks. I stumbled across the edit in Recent Changes. Pelagic ( messages ) – (23:35 Sun 25, AEDT) 12:35, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Your signature
editPlease be aware that your signature uses deprecated <font>
tags, which are causing Obsolete HTML tags lint errors. As explained at WP:SIGFONT:
<font>...</font>
tags were deprecated in HTML4 and are entirely obsolete in HTML5. This means that the popular browsers may drop support for them at some point. Wikipedia is already preparing for this by delinting code project-wide through Linter. When support finally is dropped, the tags will be ignored in all signatures; any properties such as color and font family will revert to their default values. For this reason, it is recommended that you use<span>...</span>
tags and CSS properties instead.
I have prepared a replacement signature string for you. You are encouraged to change

2023 Japan Series
editWe do go by the WP:COMMONNAME. The logo may include corporate sponsor, sure, but so what? Reliable secondary sources overwhelmingly refer to the series as the "Japan Series" without mentioning the corporate advertiser: [3], [4], [5], [6]... you get the idea. I'm not opposed to putting a note about the corporate sponsor somewhere in the body, assuming there's a reliable secondary source, but there's no way it's WP:DUE for the lead, and certainly not for the first sentence. I looked but I did not find a news story detailing how much they paid for the sponsorship, or really, anything at all about the sponsorship, which really hurts the WP:DUE case. If we simply started listing shifting corporate sponsorships of every sporting event on Wikipedia, things would get out of hand pretty quickly. Fred Zepelin (talk) 18:48, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME refers to article titles and has no bearing on what we are talking about. The article is titled by common name. And saying that a handful of words in an article violates WP:DUEA is pretty silly. The article is fairly long, a few words are obviously not undue weight. Simply mentioning the official title and corportate sponsor does not violate any policy. It is explaining to the reader what the official Japanese title of the event is, what SMBC is, and why it is included in the logo, all information that is relevant to the event. --TorsodogTalk 19:23, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- It's not about undue weight in the article, it's about undue weight in the lead. It's a really long article, and there's one mention of the sponsor that you just added (by the way, check the URL - I got a "Page not found" error when I clicked on the reference URL). So it's fine that it's in the body, but to repeat the exact same minor thing in the lead makes little sense. If no secondary sources felt the need to explain "what the official Japanese title of the event is, what SMBC is, and why it is included in the logo", then we don't do that here either. Also, I don't know what "official title" means but I'm pretty sure that's WP:OR. Fred Zepelin (talk) 20:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Whoops, never mind my note about the URL, must've been a weird error on my end, I see the actual page now in a different browser. Regardless, that's a primary source, so definitely no WP:DUE for the lead. Secondary sources don't seem to be using "SMBC" in the name of the series. But it's harmless enough in the body so I'm not removing it. Fred Zepelin (talk) 20:38, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- I quickly found a source and it happened to be primary. Have you done searching of Japanese sources? Japanese secondary sources certainly use the full name in places. I will bring this question up at WP:Baseball. Please stop reverting until the discussion plays out there. --TorsodogTalk 21:39, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
I think the wording you used in your last two edits was excellent and a good way to resolve the whole thing. Thank you for collaborating on this, although I know we have a slight difference of opinion on it. Can I suggest the other Japan Series annual articles follow the same example you've laid down?
