Please Help me change my user name and rename an article
editI would be grateful if you help me change my user name from ontoyinsimon to iamtps. I would also appreciate your help in renaming the article Accra Academy Senior High School to just Accra Academy, because the school can not be an Academy and a senior high school at the same time, I hope you see the disparity and would take some time off your busy schedule to help me out. A tag has been placed on SONIDEP requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ←Signed:→Mr. E. editI have nominated SONIDEP, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/SONIDEP. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Colony names in French West Africa
editYou wrote "Just so you know, Senegambia and Niger, later Upper Senegal and the Niger was the name of one of the constituent colonies within the AOF. It contained neither modern Senegal or Niger, but most of what is modern Mali......" I appreciate your comment. However, the paragraph in question in the article on French West Africa, refers to the eight territories that constitued the Federation, 2 of which were Senegal and Niger. As you pointed out, Senegambia and Niger, comprised most of modern Mali, the former French Soudan, which is also listed as one of the eight. Accordingly, I believe that my change is correct and should remain.Davshul (talk) 09:20, 10 March 2009 (UTC) Incidentally, the inset map in the article is also consistent with text, as amended by me. Hi, T L Miles, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you. And once again - Welcome! -- Banjeboi 22:06, 28 May 2009 (UTC) |

editThat PDF find was outstanding! Good job. I notice that you are an article rescuer (and, based on some wikistalking, a kindred spirit in your disdain for these people who try to speedy articles two minutes after creation). I do what I can reviewing articles (unfortunately, to the exclusion of all other wiki activities), if you're patrolling prods I generally leave comments with some quick research links. May save you time if you are trying to save the article.
Cloudbuster: Keep or redirect and merge?
editThe 2nd Articles for deletion discussion for Cloudbuster closed as "keep," with the note that "any merge/redirect discussions should take place at the relevant talk pages". However, the article was immediately merged and redirected into Orgone energy. The editor who participated in the discussion and then performed the merge believes that the merge/redirect is supported by consensus. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Logo-sntv.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Logo-sntv.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}

Spitsbergen History contributions
editHi. Nice work on the history section of the Spitsbergen page. I had to make a few edits though, as some of the statements made were a bit off. For example, the following quote:
"Initially the English tried to drive away competitors; but after Danish intervention in 1617-1620, they claimed only the waters south of the islands."
It was the result of disputes with the Dutch between 1613 and 1624 that the English ultimately settled in the bays south of Scheibukta (and later south of Kongsfjorden). In 1617 the English merely allowed the Danes to catch whales in Hornsund, and only after agreeing to give the English a part of their catch. Following negotiations in 1617-18 the English agreed to allow the Danes to catch whales in Spitsbergen waters, but only upon certain conditions (e.g. they couldn't sell their oil in England). The Danes really only played a small part during the first decade of the dispute.
I unfortunately had to delete all of the following quote:
"In 1618, a Danish chartered company and whaling fleet enforced this claim and began to evict Basque, English, and Dutch whalers from the waters around Spitsbergen, as well as the English chartered fleet. Weakened by it's ejection from this profitable fishery, the Moscovy Company were also soon expelled from Russian territories as well (1649)."
We know very little about what happened to the Danes in the 1618 season. All we know is that they sent up two ships, in contrast to the fifteen or so sent out by the Muscovy Company and perhaps as many as twenty-three sent out by the Dutch; for the Basques, I can't say if they even sent out any ships to Spitsbergen. Given the above figures, it is in fact impossible that the Danes could have even thought of an attempt to drive away the ships sent out from rival nations. The Danes, as you can see, never ejected the Muscovy Company's ships, which continued to send ships to Spitsbergen until at least 1658.
Besides these little mistakes, everything else you added was spot on. Again, good work. If you want to learn more about the dispute, read Conway's No Man's Land (1906) and Dalgard's Dansk-Norsk Hvalfangst i 1615-1660 (1962). Jonas Poole (talk) 20:21, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

editHello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 21:02, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Koman Coulibaly
editHi. I didn't remove (delete) the reference, I moved it up to source the claim that the penalty kick decision was "disputed". Before I moved the Reuter's link up, the "disputed" sentence was followed by the FIFA match report reference (old revision), which says nothing about it being "disputed". Poulsen (talk) 20:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi. I think we were talking across eachother there. As I first understood your post on my talk page, your main concern was that I had deleted the url-link (=reference) for the Facebook group because I did not realize it was a Reuter's article. I now understand that you said I shouldn't have removed the Facebook group sentence (=reference) because it was grounded in a notable Reuter's source.
- I might have used the word "nonnotable" in a bad Wiki-way. I mean that using a Facebook hate group to illustrate he is "controversial" will only carry argumentative weight if the group has a large number of participants and/or is wiki-notable in itself (i.e. the main focus of an article rather than a one-line throw-away mention), and is simply lazy journalism by the Reuter's writer who is propagating "original POV research" material without qualifying his source (there are Facebook hate groups for every occasion, most of them with very few members - fx. the 196 new English-language hate groups regarding Koman). The Reuter's mention of the group is simply trivial info, and does not say anything about Koman, other than that (10-100-1000?) random Tunisian fans on a social network agreed the Tunisian games were "controversial". This does not carry the same weight as the journalist saying so himself, or citing a reliable source. If the Tunisian games were perceived as controversial, it should be possible to find a proper source saying so instead.
- Of course fact-checking sources isn't the main purpose of Wikipedia, but as the recent discussion over edits at Talk:Koman Coulibaly shows, journalistic writings are not gospel, and some have been excluded from the article, as they could not be verified or were POV.
- I have no experience with the procedures of arbitration, and have no intention to take it there myself. We should at least discuss it first, and it seems the next step is mediation should it come to that. Poulsen (talk) 00:47, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Talk:Federal University of Petroleum Resource Effurun, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Nigerien elections
editTo answer your questions:
- This edit replaced a load of fairly dense text with a single table which easily explains what the results are. The first part of the text I removed is totally unnecessary as it only states what is in the results table. There is some information in the second part which is worthwhile, and I have reinstated that to the article.
- I do not believe this edit has removed any text of value; indeed, the original article was written in the wrong tense (present tense).
- I have no idea why you have a problem with this edit, as it has not removed any information; all I did was rewrite the introduction, add the results table, and fix some bad grammar and links in the final section.

Please help me; retrive my user name password and move my username and contributions
editHi there. I hope you would be able to help me out and thanks for putting in the request; Accra Academy Senior High School has been successfully and rightfully moved to Accra Academy. The first time I join Wikipedia, I created the user name osy ie the initials to my full name, then along the line I created the user name ontoyinsimon,and I do not know for what purpose now. My surname is "very unique" taking into account where I hale because it is used by "yes it might sound bogus" just one family and I find it somewhat embarrassing for others to identify me point blank on Wikipedia especially so, if they can know what I have been up to---which is nothing bad, but hey I don't like finding out how I spend some of my time here on Wikipedia, I contribute just because I can and it would benefit others,----- the problem however is that I forgot the password to my osy user account and for some reason, probably because I created it 3 or more years ago, I might have deleted the email account with which I created this user name which makes it impossible for me to retrieve a new password for the account any time a request one. Kindly help me resolve this issue as I would like to use my osy user name which reveals less about the user as compared to the ontoyinsimon user name I am currently using which makes it very easy for me to be identified and which I do not want. I would also prefer that my contributions from the ontoyinsimon user account are duly moved to my osy user account. Thanks you in advance. OSY 14:37, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi T L Miles,
Thanks for replying to my talk page. So does that mean I can go and make the necessary additions with my sources on Maba's article?
Also how do I do the ref tag especially when I have lots of sources and the article in question already has ref tags? Would it confuse the system? Because I have tried it before but it came out wrongly.
Thanks

In fact, the 10% of muslims in DR Congo comes from an outdated Demographic and Health Survey. The most recent (2007) says that there are 1.5% of muslims. The World Factbook has not yet updated his webiste with the new data.
Same is true for Nigeria : the 50,4% of muslim come from the 2003 demographic and health survey. See this page : http://pewforum.org/future-of-the-global-muslim-population-nigeria.aspx (That report, which was based on the 2003 Nigerian Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), estimated that Muslims made up 50.4% of Nigeria’s population. But the results of the 2008 Nigerian Demographic and Health Survey, which were made public after the release of the Pew Forum’s 2009 report, contradicted the 2003 NDHS, saying Muslims accounted for 45% of the population.)
We must always use the most recent data. That's why i am updating the figures. Thanks. Mightymights (talk) 10:11, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
You must understand that we will never know exactly what is the percent of actual population that is muslim or christian, since there aren't religious censuses in nigeria or dr congo. That's why we use the percent of respondents to a survey. Thanks. Mightymights (talk) 10:27, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

WP:ENGLISH?
editHi, Miles. You don't know me, but we have an acquaintance in common: Chiwara. He told me that, like he and I, you believe that WP:ENGLISH should be the exception, not the rule. I'm having a hard time with it. I usually contribute to articles related to Brazil/Portugal history. Right now we have King John VI, son of Maria I (not Mary I), father of Pedro I (not Peter I) and Miguel I (not Michael I). This means that João VI (John VI) is t he only one in a line of kings with an anglicized name, instead of his original one, in Portuguese. WP:ENGLISH makes even less sense when you noticed that we have Russian czars, German emperors, Spanish kings all with anglicized names, while everyone else from their respective countries have their names in their native tongue. As I said: WP:ENGLISH should be the exception, not the rule. What do you think? --Lecen (talk) 02:21, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Ble-goude.gif)
editThanks for uploading File:Ble-goude.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:48, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of J. X. Williams
editI have removed the proposed deletion tag you placed on J. X. Williams, as the article has previously been undeleted and per policy is permanently ineligible for proposed deletion. I only did this to comply with policy, and have no opinion one way or the other on the merits of the deletion nomination. I recommend taking this article to AfD. —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:51, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
It looks like you nominated Talk:J. X. Williams -- the talk page, not the main article -- for deletion. Did you mean to do this? Or were you trying to delete the article J. X. Williams? (If the article gets deleted, its talk page will also be deleted anyway.) If you really meant to nominate the talk page, this is the wrong procedure; a deletion of the talk page alone would have to be done via Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:06, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and fixed this on technical grounds. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/J. X. Williams. In the future, when using Twinkle to open AfDs, please make sure you have the article page open, not the talk page. —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:34, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
Hey TL, I saw you wrote this article a while back and it's looking pretty good... are you interested in collaborating in getting it to Good Article status? I've never done one, and not a single "Human rights in ____" page has become a GA or FA. I think it's time. I can flesh out and copyedit over the next week, and we can see what needs to be done from there. You in? PhnomPencil talk contribs 16:46, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Office du Niger
editI've just created a new article - Office du Niger (ON) and by looking at "What links here" I discovered that you had listed the article on your user page as one you would like to create. I've found that ON is a large subject, much larger than I first realised. There are many elements - the campaign by the French engineer Emile Belime in 1920s, the use of conscripted labour in its construction, the problems with the lack of investment after independence, the use of large quantities of water from the Niger River vs the Inner Niger Delta, the agrobusiness and land grabbing etc. I have lots of good sources, many in French, which I've listed in the article (even though they aren't yet cited) - I'm only missing Emil 1984 but he has an article in Bonneval et al 2002 which I have. The corresponding article on French wiki is large and looks good but lacks figures and inline citations. It was pasted in as a single chunk by an editor who then quit wikipedia. I initially suspected that the text was plagiarised - but I now think it possible that the text is from an MA dissertation - hopefully by the person who pasted in the text.
I'm frustrated by my inability to find free data to use to create large scale maps. Although gis files showing communes are available from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs here - only non-commercial use is allowed. The new article is very incomplete but I intend to expand and improve it when I can find the time. Aa77zz (talk) 22:43, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Contests
editUser:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:38, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
Invite to the African Destubathon
editHi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
File:Emilegentile 37.jpg needs authorship information
editThe media file you uploaded as File:Emilegentile 37.jpg appears to be missing information as to one (or more) of the following :
- The author or creators of the work, (including information as to the author's lifespan).

If you did provide such information, it is currently confusing for others trying to make use of the image.
It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message
editThe article Revolutionary Communist Party of Ivory Coast has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-notable minor Communist party. Provided sources fail to demonstrate the requirements of WP:NORG. Could not find any reliable sources covering this party after a Bing search. Note that this is not the "main" Communist party of Cote D'ivoire and is a minor fringe group following Hoxhaism.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Chess (talk) (please use {{reply to|Chess}}

editHi, I see you've contributed a lot to Kwararafa, would you be interested in a taskforce on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 20:15, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
via domitia
editBonjour @T L Miles,
Cordialement. Jpve (talk) 08:18, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
