Metropolitan Opera performance database
editHi Robert! I noticed that you updated a few URLs for the Metropolitan Opera performance database. I did notice in the last couple of weeks that none of the existing links in Wikipedia articles worked any more, but I couldn't figure out the new scheme. This scheme seems to hinge on a parameter "dockey" where the old scheme used "xCID". I can't detect any relation between these numbers, and they seem to have abandoned the URL method /scripts/cgiip.exe/WService=BibSpeed/fullcit.w?xCID=
. So, how did you find the new numbers? Fresh searches from their landing page? I'm thinking about emailing their nominated contact person, John Tomasicchio, about our dilemma, but wanted to ask you first whether you have done that already. Cheers, Michael Bednarek (talk) 00:43, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I did new searches using the dates of performances or searches for "HD" and titles. I've already sent two e-mails to Tomasicchio pointing out some recent errors that have crept into the database. I'm hoping the new 'dockey' numbers will be permalinks and won't change if/when the database is rebuilt. I suppose we might want to ask about this. I kind of stopped making changes because I was not certain and don't want to have to redo everything again if that should happen. So, yes please email him. --Robert.Allen (talk) 02:17, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
@Michael Bednarek: The 'dockey' value for the HD transmission of Medea seems to have changed already after I updated its url. --Robert.Allen (talk) 22:03, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- That's terribly frustrating. Also, I can't figure out a search method for CIDs on their site; and a search for 'Médée' returns nothing (it's 'Medea'). BTW the new "dockey" is 0387361. However, the might of Google search works: "CID:357721" site:archives.metopera.org/ works as expected. I sent an email to Tomasicchio, CC'ed to you, but haven't received a reply. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 00:48, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I saw it. Thanks for cc'ing me. I sent them some messages pointing out a few errors, which they very promptly fixed and thanked me, so they are reading their email. Probably they are focused on improving accuracy and keeping the database up to date. One option to create permalinks would be to create archived copies at Internet Archive and link the archived copies. Not ideal, but it does not rely on their creating any new functionality, which I imagine will not be a high priority for them. --Robert.Allen (talk) 06:44, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Michael Bednarek: Another option might be to use their new search function, specifying title and date. For example: https://archives.metopera.org/MetOperaSearch/search.jsp?titles=Les Contes d'Hoffmann&exact_date=20171028 --Robert.Allen (talk) 20:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for finding that. I'll keep it in mind. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 23:24, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Infrastructure completed in 1672
editA tag has been placed on Category:Infrastructure completed in 1672 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. Hi Robert. Would you mind providing the citations for the date of birth and death for Dabadie in the Chronological list of operatic sopranos article? It looks a bit complicated and you seem to be more familiar with the ins and outs of this. Best.4meter4 (talk) 20:13, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
