Taiwanese Nationality Law
editHi Horserice, I had made some edits to the Taiwanese Nationality Law page, and I acknowledge that you found them to be disruptive. I hope I can explain my position a little more here. The section which I edited is actually a highly political topic in the ROC today. Specifically: "The Chinese government imposed ROC nationality on local residents in 1946, when the Executive Yuan declared the "restoration" of their status as Chinese nationals. Unlike the cession to Japan, Taiwanese residents could not choose which nationality to retain when the ROC took control."
You cited an article from the Taipei Times, which is a Pan-Green newspaper in Taiwan. The Pan-Green alignment is inclined towards Taiwanese localisation and independence. Some claims which have been made by Pan Green supporters include the illegitimacy of the Republic of China, and other ideas involving the idea that Taiwan should still belong to Japan due to some technicality in international law.
I apologize for previously deleting the segment. However, I believe that the phrasing of these two sentences is highly politically charged and also biased in favour of Pan Green politics. The status of Taiwan in international law is still moot and there are valid arguments on either side. I believe that the article should reflect a broad spectrum of information, which is why my final edit was to insert a line to the effect that the Taiwanese could not choose which nationality to retain, because Japan revoked their Japanese citizenship. This information is included in the article which you cited at the end of the sentence: "The Japanese government made public said that Taiwanese were to lose their Japanese nationality as soon as the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty — commonly known as the Treaty of Taipei, which did not enter into force until Aug. 5, 1952 — took effect."
The article places emphasis on the overlap between the restoration of ROC nationality in 1946 and the loss of Japanese nationality in 1952. However, there nevertheless appears to be no evidence that the ROC had removed any choice for Taiwanese residents, because if they had not granted ROC citizenship, then Taiwanese residents would not have had a nationality after Japan's retreat. Therefore, I believe that the ideal compromise for the page is to acknowledge that Taiwanese residents could not choose, because Japan revoked their Japanese status. If you disagree with this position, I would highly appreciate it if you could explain what options were open for the Taiwanese to choose, between 1946 and 1952, and we can work from there. I believe that it would only be correct to say that the Taiwanese could not choose, if the ROC actually prevented them from being able to choose a different nationality. An "imposed" ROC nationality can nevertheless be renounced if the individual were able to obtain another nationality, but this was not the case in Taiwan. The current phrasing sounds antagonistic towards the ROC, as it appears to associate the grant of ROC citizenship with a lack of choice.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope you would accept my edit, acknowledging that the lack of choice was due to Japan's revocation of Taiwanese residents' Japanese status. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.100.129.79 (talk) 22:30, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

When other users see edits under an unregistered user that don't follow standard practice (lack of an edit summary, removing information or citations), you'll often find those changes quickly reverted. Australian nationality law
editHi Horserice! I have not read your revisions in details but will be more than happy to support. There are two points that are in my mind at this moment.
- Yeah no worries, thanks for taking a look.
- There is some important information from Procedures Advice Manual (PAM3) - only available to subscribers (and libraries). I have read it a long time ago. I will try see if anything should be included in there. If you can try to get a quick read by yourself, that would be great.
- It is probably not feasible for me to get a copy of that manual given my distance from an Australian library by an ocean or two, but please bring up whatever you find that's noteworthy in there.
- I remember reading a high profile case on ABC News (Australia). It was Quade Cooper. There may be a few other important cases in the past decades.
--Taweetham (talk) 05:22, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Added a little bit more on the recent athlete rule relaxation. I wrote it in a generic way since I typically shy away from adding any particular person's name into these articles unless they're part of some landmark court case or something along those lines. Let me know if that's good. Horserice (talk) 08:25, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

I have read the whole article and made the comments on the GA-nomination page. The PAM3 I mentioned earlier is actually for migration. If I remember correctly, the citizenship part is called ACI. It is part of https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/tools/legendcom. I do not have access right now and I do not think I will gain access to it in the next 7 days for this GA nomination. If you want to promote this further to Feature Article, I can try to look into it later. --Taweetham (talk) 04:05, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Australian nationality law
editOn 13 November 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Australian nationality law, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that even though Australian citizens are no longer British subjects, they can still vote in elections and stand for parliament in the United Kingdom? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Australian nationality law. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Australian nationality law), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for Philippine nationality law
editOn 17 March 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Philippine nationality law, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that foreign nationals wishing to gain Philippine citizenship need to demonstrate proficiency in English or Spanish as well as a Philippine language? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Philippine nationality law. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Philippine nationality law), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Hi Horserice, as the FAC is languishing I think you should be bold and start canvasing potentially interested editors to take a look. Maybe go through regular contributors in the relevant project areas, and then request on their talk pages. Would hate to see a deserving candidacy wither. Ceoil (talk) 23:11, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Ceoil: Hey there, sorry I was away for a few days. Just pinged a few people and the WikiProject Law talk page to hopefully gather some interest. I see you already posted on the WikiProject Ireland board but I'll try to poke around that project for some editors as well. Horserice (talk) 05:28, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
Hello,
I'm currently doing a peer review of ministerial by-election and think you ought to be involved.

Thank you today for Irish nationality law (below), introduced: "Seeing as how it's almost St. Patrick's Day, I thought it'd be a good time to put this article forward for FAC. This article is about the history and regulations of Irish citizenship. Given the manner in which independence was achieved, it's interesting to observe how closely tied Ireland and Britain remained after independence and how that is reflected in nationality law."! - My little cotrib to St. Patrick's was The Deer's Cry ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:55, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

irish nationality law
editHorserice, i had two quick questions regarding this article and the associated blurb.
- would it be more appropriate to avoid using a comma in "Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956"? the original text of the act appears to use it, but it seems that more recent references to the law tend to avoid using it. in particular, wikipedia seems to avoid using a comma in the titles of articles on irish laws, as seen in "Treason Act 1939" and "Companies Act 2014".
- is there a citation for the date that the act came into force? the date appears to be mentioned both in the article lead and the infobox, without a citation in both cases.

Promotion of Israeli citizenship law
editTFA date
editHi Horserice, nice work on Israeli citizenship law. I have scheduled it to run as the TFA on 29 February. I note that Sheila1988 has TFAP'ed it for 14 May, Independence day. Would you rather leave it as 29 Feb or take your chances with TFAR for 14 May? Cheers. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:25, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Gog, between the two dates, I'd prefer 14 May. The Israeli independence day seems an appropriate day for this as a TFA. Best, Horserice (talk) 16:41, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

Australian Nationality Law
editHello there
I didn't mean to waste your time by going over old ground. I looked for our previous discussion but couldn't find it. Could you send me a link to it? I still think there is too much in this article about the history of Aboriginal voting rights (an important topic but well covered in other articles and not really relevant to their nationality under Australian law). I came across this article again because I am intending to improve the article on Suffrage in Australia which is a mess.
