Re:Editing tips
editWhat sort of editing tips? Well, if you're looking for articles to edit, try the random article button (or I can give you huge lists, and yes, I mean huge :)).
The bad thing is, many people will oppose people in RfAs if the main thing they do is vandal fighting. :( Hmmm... do you think an RfA is a good idea? jj137 (talk) 01:19, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, it could. I mean, when RfAs fail, people generally expect candidates to wait at least 3-6 months (roughly) before retrying. Then they will ask you questions about how you've improved since your previous RfA, etc. jj137 (talk) 01:25, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism?
editYou left on my talk page something about Vandalism, you failed to mention which page was reverted and considered vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.207.191 (talk) 23:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC) Yes but what page, I hardly limit my "vandalism", which usually expresses it self in the form of removing original research and opinions. For instance I've been occupying my self lately by removing Trivia expressing Fan opinions from Babylon 5 episodes. DO NOT vandalise my User PAge with your welcome thing, I know your rules and your welcome thing and how to sign, I do not on the other hand care for them. Had one, I do not wish another, unless there is a rule that states I NEED an account to make more than a certain amount of edits. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.207.191 (talk) 23:58, 1 February 2008 (UTC) I already said I didn't care, I've never been to my user page before you started posting there and I'm only going there because a thing comes up at the top of the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.207.191 (talk) 01:03, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- You have still failed to tell me exactly what article I "vandalized", my original reason for acknowledging you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.207.191 (talk) 01:16, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Should I leave the Trivia title when I delete all of the trivia within? And that still isn't specific, I asked "exactly what article" and "which page". You can't be saying you object to me deleting the unreferenced, original research, trivia (that often goes along the lines "Fans believe blah blah blah" or "this is a clear homage/reference to [insert geek subculture icon]", and I don't mean that in a negative way, I'm rather geeky myself, Warhammer behind me, Star Wars and Dragonlance to the right, WWII stuff and Battletech stuff to my left over half of my bed) in the articles for episodes from the first 3 seasons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.207.191 (talk) 01:42, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA
editI'm sorry, but I've closed your Request for adminship prematurely. Simply put, you have too few edits on Wikipedia; while edit count isn't the only determining factor, and numerous people have their own personal standards that they judge RfA candidates by, there was no chance that the RfA was going to pass.
I'm sorry about this, and hope you don't take it personally. If you continue to contribute to the project in a positive fashion, I'm confident that you could possibly run a successful RfA in the future. You may want to consider submitting yourself to Wikipedia:Editor review for feedback on where to get some good experience, and when you're ready for RfA again, there's a great Wikipedia:Admin coaching program for you to use, as well as a guide to requests for adminship.
If you have any other questions about becoming an administrator, please don't hesitate to ask me. Good luck! Maxim(talk) 17:02, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

- Yes - in the 'Toolbox' (under the searchbox) it should say "Email this user" when you are on my userpage or my talk page. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:14, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Are you sure you gave the right email address - try refreshing the page. Also, can you give me a link where you can join a league - I can't find it. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:23, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

- What's the link to your league? jj137 (talk) 02:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- I guess so, if you want to. jj137 (talk) 02:45, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Great! Are you able to make the draft Saturday? jj137 (talk) 02:56, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Of course I'll give ESPN a try. We have two days to get a few more people, so I'm not sure how that will work out. jj137 (talk) 20:09, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Have you asked Milk's Favorite Cookie or Stormtracker yet? jj137 (talk) 20:22, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, you should probably go ahead and do that. If we can't get enough people for the CBS league, it will be good to already have that ready. jj137 (talk) 20:46, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- BTW, you might want to see this... jj137 (talk) 20:48, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

edit(I also left you a message above, if you didn't see it yet) It looks like the league is full now. Just wondering, do you know what would happen if someone missed the draft tomorrow? jj137 (talk) 21:20, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

This month's newsletter was designed and written by Wizardman, jj137, and Blackngold29. If you would like to contribute to future newsletters, please contact the Baseball WP outreach dept. |
Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, "The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29 |

editHehe, I don't think I've heard him say that. Then again, maybe I didn't listen closely enough... jj137 (talk) 03:05, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
If you believe that you can edit constructively and within our expectations and behavior norms, then you are welcome to come back on Tuesday and edit again. Please take some time off and consider what are appropriate ways of engaging in conversation and building the encyclopedia. Thank you. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 06:39, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- On my talk page, you wrote: Yea, I WAS TRYING TO STOP ANOTHER ARGUMENT LIKE THE SECTION ABOVE IT! LOOK AT IT NOW! I WAS RIGHT!
- I understand that. It was clear from the edit summaries that you intended that.
- What you need to understand is that it's not your right to "stop arguments" like that. You don't get to decide which discussions are worth having on talk pages and which aren't. It's not your right to remove other people's comments like that.
- If discussions get particularly hostile, or particular editors are disruptive in discussions, then something can be done to tone things down. But random editors are not allowed to just short circuit discussion by randomly deleting others' comments like you did.
- It's fundamentally disrespectful of all the other participants in the discussion to take away anyone else's comments.
- Trying to minimize conflict and keep things civil and constructive is good. But doing so by removing talk comments is far far worse.
- Please do not do it again. As I said, and as you were warned, it's absolutely not OK to remove those others' comments like that. Thank you. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 01:44, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Sport roster changes
editPer WP:CRYSTAL, we don't include any expected/suggested/impending sport roster changes. We only report on those that have occured, since such events don't occur on a regularly scheduled or predictable basis.
See Talk:Jason_Kidd#Dallas_Mavericks_2008 to see how some editors jumped the gun and added details to a deal that was "done in principle", but never approved by the NBA. The trade got blocked by a clause in Devean George's contract and had to be re-worked with different players a week later. --Madchester (talk) 01:09, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Re: deleted sawyer the musical
editRe your message: I deleted the article because of borderline WP:BLP issues regarding the student who is the focus of the play. Additionally, there is no notability claim for the play and, since the writing of the play is not completed, the article would be deleted per policy. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:07, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Re your message: I noticed that when I read the article. No, it does not make any difference. If anything, it adds to the issues with the article as you have a conflict of interest. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:14, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Re your message: Alright, as long as the play meets the notability requirements. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:23, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Red Sox-Junichi Tazawa links
editI wanted to let you know that I reverted your edit in Junichi Tazawa, since the current reports look flimsy in my opinion. No US organization is actually reporting the news, but instead reporting on an article in Sankei Sports (or Sanspo), a Japanese sports tabloid. No other source has reported this news to my knowledge, and the details are sketchy right now. I would be careful about citing any news coming out of Japan - most US media are probably ripping stories off NPB Tracker, and if they're citing a Japanese sports daily, that means they probably have nothing. --Mosmof (talk) 23:32, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I realized that they're working off two Japanese newspaper sources now, but they're still unreliable, I think. But Boston Globe actually got a confirmation from Shipley, so I'll put that source in. --Mosmof (talk) 23:38, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

The pattern of behavior would seem to clearly indicate that you have intentionally attempted to cicumvent your block. If you can prove you are willing to abide by all Wikipedia rules, such as NOT editing while you are blocked, for a significant period of time, then your unblock request may be reconsidered. However, one week is not sufficient time to demonstrate that you are reformed. If you continue to repeatedly request unblocks in rapid succession, this talk page may be protected to stop that disruption. — Jayron32.talk.contribs 04:00, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

- I've no idea who is making the above comment, or indeed the veracity of such a claim (timing of a "set-up" is way out), but I have to say that an indefinite block seems out of proportion in this case. It is obvious that HPJoker is guilty of some incivility but to justify an indefinite block I would imagine that means that his presence is a negative one. I believe that claim to be false as the user is not beyond reform. Furthermore, the inconclusive checkuser undermines the indefinite block in these circumstances. Perhaps there are signs of immaturity here, gross immaturity and a brusque manner to boot, but I think that the block should be removed after a week if:
- No attempts to avoid the block are made
- HPJoker agrees to keep within the bounds of civility
- HPJoker realises his behaviour must improve and apologises
- If unblocked I'll be sure to keep an eye on this talk page and recommend a re-blocking if I turn out to be wrong about this.
- HPJoker: if you're reading — what do you think? Sillyfolkboy (talk) 23:22, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
I am wondering who that IP is......
I just know that Blueboy has caused hell for me. I write an MLB free agency thing on my userpage and I haven't been able to because I've been blocked. I am truly pissed off at him. If I never see him again that would be perfectly fine with me.
I am not attempting to avoid the block. I was using the computers at my school so I could argue my block with Blueboy. When he says that incivility is continued by the use of an IP timer reset is BS. I feel like this guy. Wrongfully accused and sentenced. I will apologize to atlanta but will NEVER speak to Blueboy again. But to tell the truth I feel like they need to lighten up. You got insulted online, lighten up. The whole reason I said that to him in the first place was because he told me to shut down my user page. I said something back to him because someone tried to bring it down last year and it failed.
What is that IP? HPJoker Leave me a message 00:19, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I see that your userpage seems to be the real case in point. Why not signup for a wordpress blog account instead? Personally, I see your blog/newsfeed thing as quite harmless but I think it's a valid question as to why you should be doing this type of thing on Wikipedia. People have also suggested moving it to a sub-page as a compromise. Why not try user:HPJoker/RedSox? To be honest I think that getting a blog would better suit your needs anyway and bring your thoughts to a wider audience. I imagine there wouldn't be anything wrong with linking it from your userpage anyway. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 03:40, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have to say, I agree with Sillyfolkboy, that you should be allowed back under certain restrictions, cause you do have some legitimate contrubutions that have helped out. And the fact that the only sock was your IP, which you claim is very active. So I'm all for letting you back, but with the restrictions Sillyfolkboy gave and having a "parole officer" to monitor your edits and if you break a restriction they reblock you indefinetely.--Iamawesome800 16:52, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

- You should leave an unblock request, or email the admin who blocked you. You can do the latter if you enable emailing other users in your preferences. J.delanoygabsadds 02:02, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Based on your conduct, I think it was a good call to block you indefinitely. I don't consider there is any evidence that you've changed. — PhilKnight (talk) 01:53, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

- I think that we should take this to ANI or ArbCom and try and come to a consensus whether or not you should be unblocked. And obviously there would be a parole officer that can and will block you if you violate a term of your unblocking.--Iamawesome800 Talk to Me 21:57, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

The passage of time, by itself, doesn't make an unblock called for. If you think you've solved the problems that made the block necessary, you should be more specific about why you should be unblocked and what you'd do differently. FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 23:31, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

- You've got to give more a reason, other than length, age and maturity. Admitting you did it, would be a start.--Giants27(Contribs|WP:CFL) 13:30, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

I am declining your request for unblock because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
- the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
- the block is no longer necessary because you
- understand what you have been blocked for,
- will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
- will make useful contributions instead.
Please read our guide to appealing blocks for more information. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 20:36, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
