Louis Minott from Valley Stream, New York

edit

Hey Dminott, I checked out the reference you provided for Louis Minott on Valley Stream, New York, but it would appear that the source does not provide support for all the information alledged in the article.

  • Principly, the source does not appear to state a 20-year residency in Valley Stream.
  • There is no mention of having retired in Florida.
  • While the source substantiates the creation of Davida and EF Davida, there is no mention of Davida Bold.

If I missed something, please point out where in the source this information appears. Otherwise, consider finding an alternative source to use for citation. Thank you. --JBC3 (talk) 20:52, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing out my error!
I have been making changes for a number of years, but mostly spelling and grammar errors.
This was my first attempt at an insertion and didn't fully understand the need for references.
I've changed the specific reference to a general refernce, which covers your point and removed any references to which I have not yet found web links.
You ask for a reference regarding residence in our town. What proof would you need?
I can supply you with a scan of a legal document showing residence at the time(s) stated and also a reference to a death notice via a government website, if needed.
I notice that there appears to be some "circular" references, i.e., where an entry refers back to a different article in Wikipedia for verification.
As I discover further references, I will re-edit and include them, however, I would appreciate the current entry remaining, while I do so. Feel free to edit or remove anything you feel has not followed correct procedure, or let me know, and I will do so.
Thank you for your input.

No worries, half of what I learned on here was from making mistakes and being bold. I'll give you a few days before I check back on the article. I have no intention of deleting the text because I believe it to be factual and added in good faith. In order to meet verifiability requirements, new facts must be sourced. Wikipedia's content guidelines for reliable sources (WP:RS) can assist you in meeting Wikipedia's Verifiability Policy requirements. The URL to the death notice on the government website will be enough for the Florida part. As to the scan of a legal document, I don't have an answer for you on that just yet but I'll get back to you. Is it a certificate of residency or something? With regard to circular referencing, Wikipedia is not a third party published source. Therefor, Wikipedia and sites that mirror Wikipedia articles do not meet verifiability policy requirements. Hope this was helpful. I'll check back soon! --JBC3 (talk) 23:04, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I saw your message at Category talk:American classical cellists and made the change needed. In future, you'd probably be better off raising this at the talk page of the article in question, if you can't work out how to fix something – category talk pages are not very widely watched for messages. Now I've shown you how to do it, though, I'm sure you'll be fine next time! Regards, BencherliteTalk 23:03, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
