editNote that this category existed before, and was deleted about half a year ago through the WP:CfD procedure [[1]], as being not really relevant; and potentially opening a whole string of X's cnverted to Y's religion. Perhaps your intentions with it are valid, but make sure it is not the resurrection of the old list. If you truly think your intentions have none of the problems in the discussion; I would be happy to keep it up, otherwise I would suggest deletion. Arnoutf 11:22, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Re: Overstocked protesting
editLast question first -- nah, no luck. I'm Greg Greene, a political consultant based in D.C., who picked up the 'Va.' in his internet handle because he spent seven years down in Charlottesville for college and law school. (You can see a slightly out of date bio here, if you like.)
I checked on your talk page b/c I filed the report on the 3RR noticeboard. I wanted to follow up to check on the outcome of that action, and came across your remark about sockpuppets as I read the archive.
It got my dander up b/c you have, in the last couple of weeks, made copious references to sock puppets in your edit summaries on the Greenwald article. One probably hit the mark (yep, SouthieFLA looked odd). Still, the blanket assertion here, just like the blanket assertions made in the edit summaries, left the implication that any one of us editors -- or all of us -- could be sockpuppets. You have to ask why someone could find that insulting?
As for the bit about admitting chicanery: ummm, no. I said mythical chicanery, as a retort to the sockpuppet assertion.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to adjust my hoop skirt. --GGreeneVa 04:12, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
You should not move a page by copy-and-pasting the content. The GFDL requirements require that the article history remain with all text. Please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to move a page. I have fixed the copy-and-paste you did from Chabad to Chabad (disambiguation) by perfroming an actual move. If you have any questions, please let me know. -- JLaTondre 20:32, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. As for closing the move request, I'll leave that to the folks who normally monitor WP:RM. I don't normally participate there and each process has its own quirks. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 21:14, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Images
editAs Jkelly told you at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, {{rfu}} is the correct tag for these images. Fair use images of living people are nearly never allowed on Wikipedia. ShadowHalo 19:27, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- We only allow images to illustrate living people when it would be nearly impossible to take a picture. For example, there's not going to be a free picture of Osama bin Laden anytime soon. ShadowHalo 19:41, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "legal rationale"? ShadowHalo 19:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is licensed under the GFDL, so we limit our use of copyrighted material only to when it is necessary. For living people, it is possible for a Wikipedia user to take a picture of the person, so we do not allow copyrighted images, which would prevent this from happening. Re: Misunderstanding
editI hear that, but it should at least be sourced at the top. It should either say "some say messianism's big (ref.) and some say we don't know (ref.)" or "Berger and others say messianism's big (ref.) while Fishkoff and others say we don't know (ref.)." Otherwise, we make it look like one source has more backing than another. There are also sources which say messiannism's miniscule, but I'm too busy to look for these. --Yodamace1 21:56, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Then it should say "some say messianism's big and some say we don't know" or "Berger and others say messianism's big while Fishkoff and others say we don't know." For future reference, if one tzad has a source, so too the other tzad...we can't just delete the other second tzad's source--that makes the second tzad sound non-credible. --Yodamace1 00:29, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Baranes flyer.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Baranes flyer.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Fair use and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chocolatepizza 02:35, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:Pinny Lew.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Pinny Lew.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Glenn Greenwald sockpuppetry
editUnless I'm misreading, you are also a supporter of including a balanced section on G.Greenwald's extensive and even obsessive use of anonymous 'sockpuppets' to attack critics, defend himself (in the 3rd person) disseminate misinformation, try to make it appear he has myriad defenders attacking any blog that disagrees with him, etc. However, the Admins seem to have sided with people like AStanhope who revert the page, then request its locking to their satisfaction, and who refuse to compromise, even though a consensus reference to the matter was reached and stable for months, he and some collaborators made it their business to alternately revert so that none of them would be guilty of 3RR.
I have appealed for a revert to the settled form of the page, but to no avail (I've not even been answered). What can be done? What actions can be taken? How is it that a few driven opinionators can control content so?
If there is any way we can band together with like-minded contributors to rectify what I feel is an important inclusion in the article of a propagandist that shines light on dishonesty and bad faith, shading all his work, I'm interested in cooperating. People like Greenwald should be exposed so that their very extreme and opinioned, and widely disseminated propaganda can have the proper context included when weighing their propaganda.

Parent categories versus sub-categories.
editHi David Spart: You have placed the parent category of Category:Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidim on the pages of many Category:Chabad-Lubavitch rabbis which was not necessary. If one is already a Chabad rabbi then by definition one is automatically a Chabad chosid (while the reverse is not true.) For more information about how to align categories correctly, see Wikipedia:Categorization, especially Wikipedia:Categorization#How to create subcategories. Please note, that categorization is not as simple as it seems and requires a little practice, so please be cautious in this regard. Please feel free to contact me if you need help. TFA overhaul again
editHey Dave. We've been having sort of a clash at the TFA requests page in that Raul wants to totally abolish that page, or at least disallow the idea of suggested dates. Now, this seems like he is just trying to lessen the ability of other users to have a say in TFA, and it's really making me angry. Anyway, I had remembered that you had, not too long ago, made that TFA overhaul proposal, and since the idea was brought up by me (and some others) here again to give TFA rights to more than one person (Raul) I figured I contact you. Anyway, read the discussion there, and chime in if you want. βJaredββtββ 00:10, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello, David Spart. An automated process has found and will an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that is in your userspace. The image (Image:Kosovo pisg logo.PNG) was found at the following location: User:David Spart. This image or media will be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. This does not necessarily mean that the image is being deleted, or that the image is being removed from other pages. It is only being removed from the page mentioned above. All mainspace instances of this image will not be affected Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. My Userboxes?
editEh... hello David, I just noticed that you seem to have copied all my user boxes onto your page, now there's nothing wrong with that, you're entitled to. But are you sure you meant to take all of them? Some seem to be contradictory, first stating that you are from American and later from Ireland, so where are you from, cause I can't work it out from your page? Perhaps you mistakenly pasted in my entire page here and you didn't intend to, but it is pretty bizarre, don't you think? I'd appreciate a response, thanks. --Hibernian 10:34, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Postville.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Postville.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 21:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that you protested the removal of all controversy from the Chabad template. I too tried to reinsert in today, but I am being impeded. Chabad editors seem to feel that there is no such thing as a Chabad related controversy. F one reason or another it is always nothing to do with Chabad.
Moshe Shnuere was a bad apple! a black sheep! It is a Moshe Shnuri controversy not a Chabad controversy I supose they would argue.
What can be done about this? In general the Chabad articles I have seen are some of the worst on wikipedia about a major topic, certainly the worst Jewish ones.
There are good bits, which clearly people have tried to source and write properly, but they are buried in piles and piles of guff and nonsense taken directly from chabad.org's crapoganda. Going through the edit histories and talk pages I see people fighting this but failing simply due to the exasperating experience of dealing with the chabad editors who can obfuscate without end.
The lead on the Chabad article claims that there are 1 million Chabadniks! I mean Jesus H. Schneersohn! 20,000 in crown heights and shluchim comes to a million?
None of the chabad editors, so far as I can tell, are openly messianist, but all wish to defend the position as reasonable, which is odd.
Can we please try and do something about this. It is a great shame that these articles are such a mess. Lobojo (talk) 03:32, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Aaron Rubashkin
editA tag has been placed on Aaron Rubashkin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Ironholds (talk) 21:14, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Uri Bin Nun
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Uri Bin Nun requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text β which means allowing other people to modify it β then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:05, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
