You shot the wrong guy
Zeebeedee unless I'm reading bad Amal said complaining to cyber police was useless, he made no legal threats. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 10:07, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, OK, I guess I might have misunderstood - though mention of legal/criminal action tends to have the same chilling effect as a direct threat and is generally treated similarly. I'll post a message on his talk page and ask for clarification - and if I was wrong, I'll unblock with a suitable comment in the block log. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- I read it the same way Yogesh did, and the IP claiming to be Amal confirms that on Talk:Ezhava. I would agree with an unblock. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 10:22, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- Me, too. Amal89 was saying that the previous poster was wrong to suggest taking it to cybercrime, which appears to be a part of India's web censorship program. What to do about the previous poster, to whom Amal89 was responding, is moot. - Sitush (talk) 10:25, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

- Curses, you are all right - I wasn't reading or thinking carefully and I blocked the wrong person. I've reverted the block with an apology. As for the person who did imply legal action, I should probably recuse myself from blocking people at the moment, so I've issued a warning instead. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the consideration, moreover there were no legal threats to any person, it was said that the page would be reported. I need to check wp:NLT for details though. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 10:43, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- Judging by the way these various contributors have suddenly started disagreeing among themselves during the last 12 hours or so after weeks of harmony, I rather think that the SPI will come to naught. In which case, I too will have egg on my face. Stuff happens.
Yogesh, threatening to report an article can have a chilling effect. - Sitush (talk) 10:45, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- No problem - happy to put my hand up when I make a mistake. As for NLT, it applies generally to any threat against any part of Wikipedia, and not just threats to specified persons. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:48, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- You're right, he needs to withdraw it, pending that he is liable to be blocked, I checked it up. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 10:55, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Edit warring/removal of constructive edits
Hello, I need some help, User:Coppercholride has been reverting and edit warring with constructive edits that I have made. This trend has also been going on with other users, yet he seems adamant that he is right. I suspect there is no use in me trying to talk and discuss with him as he thinks I am on some kind of mission, and that it took a few days to just convince him to find some sources to back up what he was claiming (which he only did after User:Qwyrxian stepped in) in a previous discussion at Talk:Tamil Muslim#Ethnic origins of Sri Lankan Moors. He has reverted my constructive edits in the following three articles:
And has also engaged in the edit warring of the following articles with other editors:
The user is stirring up the neutrality and the validity of these sensitive articles, I'm not sure what would be the next step in preventing this.--Blackknight12 (talk) 13:21, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm really sorry I can't offer a great deal of help at the moment (I see Qwyrxian is too busy too), but what time I have available right now is pretty much swamped by other (mainly India-related) things. If you don't feel there's anything to be gained by further discussion, it might be worth asking for advice at WP:ANI - feel free to tell them it was my suggestion (just in case it turns out to be a bad one ;-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:14, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

- It hasn't been deleted again, it's been moved to your userspace at User:Ayush.datta/Milagrow for you to work on - all I deleted was the leftover redirect. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:06, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Block evader
Boing!, you may already know this but 99.104.185.17, 200.233.70.48, and 64.75.159.129 are all the same person. See MaterialScientist's (blocking editor's) talk page. I didn't know that IP 200 was an open proxy server until Material educated me on it. Btw, since they're all the same person, why is 99 blocked for a month, but 64 is only a day?? Same person should be the same block time for all the accounts they're using, right? I'm almost certain that 64, like 200, is a proxy server because the edtior is in Georgia (99.104.185.17). --76.189.111.2 (talk) 10:52, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I realise they're all the same person - I didn't set the block lengths myself, but I'll have a look over them again later. Oh, and no, we almost never indef block even static IPs, because even those can and often do change with time - static does not mean immutable in this case. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:19, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. --76.189.111.2 (talk) 11:21, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Protection request
Hi, Boing. I declined the protection request you suggested Pending Changes for, Joint (cannabis). I do agree it seems an obvious vandalism target. But you could of knocked me down wiv a fevver when I checked the IP edits from this year and saw that they were all but one (the last one) at least trying to be helpful. Kind of cheered me, you know? An unexpected validation of the "anybody can edit" idea that people aren't so bad after all—just as I was beginning to think that, no, really, my Wikipedia experience shows that people are bad. - Gosh, that's you in that picture, Sitush? Wow, all things become clear in the end. I remember asking RexxS at the time (RexxS is the demented motivational speaker who's about to push Malleus Fatuorum off his chair) about that guy in the background, thoughtfully leaning on the piano and seemingly about to sit down and play "As time goes by" on it. But I don't think he knew. Then perhaps you can resolve the biggest mystery: why are you holding a human finger? (Wasn't it even a piano?) Bishonen | talk 19:36, 7 April 2013 (UTC).

- RexxS definitely knew who I was. He may have wished otherwise, as people do when they see an eccentric hovering in the background! I may not be holding a human finger - consider me as ET revisiting in a slightly more human form. (It was ET who had the extra-long "spin-on-it" digit, wasn't it?). Actually, I have no idea at all what the mysterious optical goings-on are re: that extension, which someone has definitely mentioned before. I might suggest a poor bit of airbrushing but, surely, the photographer would concentrate on very necessary improvements to the face, not the hand. But, looking closely, perhaps he did.
Boing says that it was a good day and I'll take his word for it. I can't remember much of the second half aside from a rather tasty chocolate stout that perhaps pushed me over the edge. And no, it wasn't a joanna: the only tinkling I did was in the gents, not on the ivories. In fact, by the end of the day, it might have saved a lot of walking up and down stairs if they'd put a bar in the gents. - Sitush (talk) 23:24, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Help please
Hi Zebedee. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. I have been trying to move Jonathan E. Pease to Jonathan Pease but when I try to do this I get a message saying "You cannot move a page to this location because the new title has been protected from creation"[2]. I don't expect you to fix this for me but I thought you might know the right place to go to with a request. Tigerboy1966 17:37, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ah yes, it looks like Jonathan Pease was repeatedly created and deleted as being non-notable, but it was a different Jonathan Pease - a TV personality. I've unprotected it, so you should now be able to move Jonathan E. Pease - but hurry, before fans of the other Pease get hold of it again ;-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:45, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Was it too soon??
Hi, we haven't officially met, but you might have met Ched and others.. I'm the new kid in town and I was seriously tired of trying to explain to that guy that he was wrong... He just didn't get the point. But being blocked indefinitely?? Way too soon right.. Anyways, I would have done it if even a single edit went back to that page. Cheers, and Hi again The Wikimon (talk) 12:14, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. He was repeatedly creating an advertising article promoting what he claims is his own mobile phone service, despite having had it removed - and that gets a pretty quick "advertising only" indef block. Indef is not necessarily for ever - he can be unblocked as soon as he agrees to stop his promotional activity. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:19, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

- Hi. Tragic though it was (and I don't mean to downplay that), it was just one of the many thousands of murders that happen around the world each year, and Wikipedia does not document them unless they attain some sort of special notability - being a murder victim is not, on its own, considered enough for a Wikipedia article. Having said that, the Cecil Hotel itself is considered sufficiently notable for a Wikipedia article, and Elisa Lam is mentioned in that article -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:24, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Invitation to join WikiProject Admin Nominators
Hi. You recently blocked User:L2j2. I am concerned that this user has (since his block on en:) been adding similar WP:OR to other Wikimedia projects (such as es:, ht:, and fr: where the user in question edited the discussion page of his obvious sockpuppet, see below). Could you possibly contact a steward about this? It's pretty clear that his contributions to other Wikimedia projects are equally questionable. Block-evading vandal with numerous socks is back
Hi Boing, he's back (as 109.173.98.64) and using another confirmed proxy server. I see he got you too. So far, six of his sock and proxy accounts have been blocked: 99.104.185.17 (primary account), 200.233.70.48, 64.75.159.129, 196.12.59.12, 202.88.225.150, 46.209.250.1. - Thanks to all the great admins who have been dealing with this troublemaker. One question: What is a "hardblock"? I see on the block log for 99.104.185.17 (the underlying IP) that Alison blocked them for 1 month yesterday. But Boing had already blocked for 1 month. Why isn't 99.104.185.17 blocked indefinitely, or at least for a much longer period? It's a static IP. I also notice that 64.75.159.129 is only blocked for 1 month, and 46.209.250.1 for only 3 months. Perhaps there's a necessary reason that all the others are blocked for 1 year, but these are much shorter. I realize the 1 year blocks are for proxy accounts. In any case, thanks Boing, Alison, and the other admins. 76.189.111.2 (talk) 14:32, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) This page can explain a hardblock far better than I can. Bascially, however; it stops all editing, whether logged in or not. I won't comment on the length of the blocks, as I'm not an admin. ~ Matthewrbowker Make a comment! 15:44, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yep, a hard block will prevent anyone from editing from that IP address even if using a registered account, and that's the change Alison made. As for the length of the block, we almost never block an IP address indefinitely because even a "static" IP address can be reassigned. Having said that, a longer block would probably be justified, and if they come back to this address after the current block expires I expect that's what will happen. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:15, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

How does someone reply to something you/someone wrote on their(my) page? Is this the proper way/venue? (what im doing here/now)
Or for that matter, what is the proper way to communicate with a member?
Am i supposed to reply using MY talk page? as in where you left your comment? If so, does it notify you if someone replies? If this is not the proper place/way to do it please explain what im supposed to do, or direct me so the place / page to where i can find out. 24.147.206.10 (talk) 06:07, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- If I post a comment on a user talk page then I will also add the page to my watchlist - so if you reply there, I will be notified. Most people do things the same way. But if you want to be sure the person is aware you have replied, you could add "{{talkback|24.147.206.10}}" to their talk page and that will add an announcement linking back to your talkpage. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:17, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

- Hi, thanks for letting me know. I've actually removed it myself now, for a couple of reasons. I don't think it should be bundled with admin tools automatically (and I know there's a proposal to change that), and on my own merits as an article creator I don't meet the usual criteria for non-admins to be granted the right - the same standards should apply to everyone. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:24, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

I think you overreacted and took the easy route in protecting that page. Protection has been discussed both on the talk page and at WP:RFPP. There has been some vandalism since it was unprotected, but not that much. Something that is written in coherent English but is blatant factual bullshit may be eligible for CSD:G3, but "may be bullshit" is not sufficient. You are wholly uninvolved, I think. Though feel free to decline the request since we have spoken before and seem to get on well if you may feel influenced by that. Hi there; you have blocked this user for creating attack pages; I am sorry, but I do not see any. I do not, in truth, see any vandalism of any kind, although he has had three articles deleted for other reasons. what can you see that I cannot?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 10:51, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

However, judging by their latest Talk page comments, it looks like it was not intended that way and was purely innocent, so I'll unblock with a suitable log comment. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:01, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Biased POV edits
Hi Boing! said Zebedee. I have been referred to you by an editor that I trust, who identified you as a key editor on India. There is an editor going round adding to a number of articles (see Karachi) a statement about "Hindus migrating out of Pakistan, and Muslims fleeing pogroms and genocide in India (pogrom often spellt by this editor as pogram). In the past few days, another editor and I have deleted the references to pograms but he reverts the edits. I have no problem with the use of strong terms to refer to what happened in 1947, but cannot agree with the distorted view that people left Pakistan peacefully, while others fled India to escape massacres. A quick glance at a number of articles - ethnic cleansing; genocides in history, pogram, etc. do not list the 1947 population exchange that followed the partition as a pogrom or genocide. Other then 1947 per se, these articles actually reveal that a number of massacres have been carried by Pakistan(is), and not a single case of massacres against them.

ANI
I wasn't really eager to get involved there, but reading through the whole maze of issues on LittleBenW. To be clear, I avoid diacritics as a topic, it is something I am ignorant about and every time that word shows up at ANI, I know it is going to be a slugfest. In this case, I just felt like I had no choice but to come in as someone who didn't know Ben and could be objective about the process. I hope you know that I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and don't question your faith in this matter at all, but I really couldn't see how a consensus could be reached, as some votes were obviously based on the outing, and others might have been but lacked enough detail to know for sure. Trying to read consensus there was a minefield. I had hoped he would step back a bit and be a little less defiant about the affair, but my concerns are bigger than this one editor, they are more about ensuring we can sleep good at night knowing we were wise enough to know when to abort. - I don't want to insult fans of MMA in general (because I'm sure the majority are no different from followers of any sporting activity), but we do seem to get quite a few proponents here who are almost as combative as the fighters themselves - and I have better things to do than try arguing with them. There is at least one joke about bones, which invariably invokes the Irish stereotype: two Irishmen passing a pub noticed that people are playing dominoes using bones that have diamonds for pips. One says to the other, "Why not go in there, join a game and nick one of the bones? Easy money!". This was done and the conspirators met round the corner to decide where to fence their spoils ... only to find he'd taken the double-blank. - Sitush (talk) 14:05, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

- I used to think that bones (dominoes) was quite a safe past-time until my oppo somehow managed to smash a table in frustration: he slammed his bones down that hard, the top split and the legs splayed way out. It was a decent pub table, too, not some IKEA flat-pack rubbish. Then again, he was a 25-stone former rugby player with hands like shovels and a 58-inch chest ... - Sitush (talk) 12:12, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- I don't want to insult fans of MMA in general (because I'm sure the majority are no different from followers of any sporting activity), but we do seem to get quite a few proponents here who are almost as combative as the fighters themselves - and I have better things to do than try arguing with them. In fact, in the area of sports and competition, I think I might restrict my admin activities to bowls and cribbage. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:51, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Advice sought
Hi Zeb. I wonder could you advise about this: [4] & etc., which seems somehow contrary to MOS. I have opened a discussion at that editor's Talk Page. Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:57, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

- I'm sorry I really haven't had time to look at this so far. I'm not sure bare links will actually be a waste of time in themselves, though there may be more references than necessary there. They really just need to be formatted properly, but they're better than nothing, and maybe someone will come along and fix them up some time. RE: Outing allegation on Talk: Jackie Mason
Boing,
I saw this page when I was looking at pending changes. I saw you'd redacted a comment as outing, now I haven't touched it, as I'm on a voluntary 0rr restriction, however, I was curious about the claim of outing. No one's real name is used, and Saybaw does actually say (in so many words) [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Martinevans123&diff=prev&oldid=504322148 | that he works for Jackie Mason, on wikipedia ] so, I'm not convinced he was outed.
Do you not agree that the diff I gave was evidence that he's already disclosed that information on wikipedia already ? If so, then it wouldn't be a violation of outing. (I have no dogs in this fight, I'm just curious ) KoshVorlon. We are all Kosh ... 18:37, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) They don't say that they work for Jackie Mason in that diff, they say that they have some sort of connection to Mason that they explicitly ask to remain private. So no, that diff doesn't mean that this wasn't outing, since it was being more explicit than Saybaw was (about a topic Saybaw wanted to keep private, no less). Also, jeez, I only just noticed that it's ten months old. Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 18:42, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- As you will see in my Talk Page Archive 6 - Item 114, I responded. I never did get any "private communication", so I assumed that the editor had given up. Apparently not. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:07, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- I don't remember much about that and don't really have time to go back to it, sorry. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:26, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- What he said was fairly obvious... but don't worry, I get it, he didn't explicitly say he worked for Jackie Mason, therefore no one else could either. Thanks for the explanation KoshVorlon. We are all Kosh ... 17:12, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know how general a view this is, if at all, but I look at outing the same way I look at WP:SYNTH. Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 17:18, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Caste article problem
We have a problem with Shamsher Singh Sidhu Jatt at Bhatia caste, where "I know it is so" is getting ahead of WP:V. I wonder if the situation may not be helped by the new notification system - the substitution of an orange banner with a diddly red square is problematic, imo. - Sitush (talk) 17:29, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm watching that now too. And yes, I think the loss of the orange banner is a real backwards step for new users. There really is no way now of making it clear to them that they have warnings - that little red number is just not attention-grabbing. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:44, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Institut auf dem Rosenberg
Many thanks for your insightful commentary as to why, the Institut auf dem Rosenberg page should not feature on the english version of Wikipedia. However, you have failed to enlighten me on how to make the page sound 'less as an advertisment,' and more as an article.
As a fellow writer, I have put in enormous effort to write a true picture of Rosenberg. I tried to include other views about the school, such as its hefty pricing (the one negative comment online), however the comment I found regarding the price exists only in form of an online commentary, which Wikipedia does not permit as a source. I have also looked at all references about Rosenberg online and have included all of the ones found online. Finally, I looked at the entries of other boarding schools, and based my article about Rosenberg on those already existing.
I would like you to note that I have invested a enormous amount of time to produce this article in my own free time and have put it together with outmost intergrity, being a journalist myself. I am open for comments and changes to my entry, however, I am puzzled why other entires of boarding schools are deemed to meet the integrity standards eventhough the quality of the article and sources is much poorer than the one you asked to be delted about the Institut auf dem Rosenberg. You will see that they are all shown in a positve light, some of them dont have single source!!! Many are online since many years. I cannot help but feel there is a certain capriousness to this. Again, any suggestions from your side are welcome. (LKK343 (talk) 12:19, 4 May 2013 (UTC))
- Hi. I'm afraid a lot of the article was written in an overly-promotional style - more like the school's own PR than a neutral, factual, description. For example, sentences like "Rosenberg is among the world’s most prestigious schools and is the only luxury boarding school in the German-speaking part of Switzerland." and "The Institut auf dem Rosenberg paves the way for students, who often come from entrepreneurial family backgrounds, to take over leading businesses around the world and prepares them for roles in science, arts and politics." really do not belong in a neutrally-written encyclopedia article - and that's just the lead! Basically, what you would need to do is remove all the superlatives, all the praise, all the puffery, leave out the trivia - and just write it in a disinterested factual style, supported by independent third-party sources. I have provided you with a user copy of the deleted article, at User:LKK343/Institut auf dem Rosenberg, so you can work on it to bring it to a less promotional standard. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:37, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your input, I appreciate it very much and will review the article under these suggestions as soon as possible. I agree that naming Rosenberg as one of the world's most prestigious schools is redundant to the substance of the entry, however, would like you to note that it is indeed the only luxury boarding school in the German part of Switzerland. Switzerland is known for its many boarding schools, institutions, and education, however most of them are located in the French-speaking Western Switzerland. This is why I wanted to make the distinction. Having said that, I do not mind for this sentence to be deleted either. I hope you have the time to have a look at an amended article, which I hope to post next week. Many thanks again. (LKK343 (talk) 12:46, 4 May 2013 (UTC))
- Hi. I'd be happy to have a look over the article in your user space when it's ready, before you move it back to main space, if you'd like me to. Also, I see what you mean by the "only luxury boarding school in the German part of Switzerland" - maybe if you could think of a different word than "luxury" it might be better? Anyway, good luck with it. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:24, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Adam Norman
Hi, I am not sure why this page was deleted. This person is the CEO of a well known company that receives media cover globally in the form of magazines, TV, radio and more. Was there something wrong with the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by EctoMedia (talk • contribs) 06:18, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- There was no indication given in the article as to why he is sufficiently important to warrant a Wikipedia article. It was also written in too promotional a style - we don't want marketing fluff like "unlike anything the industry has seen before" here. Ultimately an article about a person would need to satisfy the notability requirements at WP:N, so please have a read of that and feel free to try again when you are sure you can provide proper support through reliable sources (see WP:RS too). -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:27, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Deletion of ectomuscle
Again, a company that traders globally, receives media coverage every month in multiple countries. The reasons stated were copyright which we have full permission to quote from the website? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by EctoMedia (talk • contribs) 06:18, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- I didn't delete it, but I can see it was not deleted as a copyright infringement - it was deleted mainly because it was pure promotional marketing fluff, and partly because there was no indication of why the company is sufficiently important for a Wikipedia article. (There was a copyright problem, and there are proper procedures you would need to follow to release the material so it can be reused by Wikipedia, but that's not really relevant as the material is wholly unsuitable for use here anyway). You are not allowed to advertise or promote your company here - Wikipedia only accepts neutrally-written articles about notable companies, almost always written by disinterested third-parties. Please see WP:NCORP for the notability requirements for companies, and have a look at the conflict of interest guidelines at WP:COI too. Finally, your username is a problem - Wikipedia accounts are for individuals only and cannot be named as if they represent a company or organization. I shall leave you a suitable message on your userpage suggesting what you should do. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:38, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
No edit summary revert - [5]
I have to disagree with your edit summary/revert explanation. Reversions of edits done by IPs where there is no edit summary are done quite frequently. I see it all the time by other editors, including experienced, long-time editors. Now, if you're saying there's no policy stating no edit summary is not enough of a reason to revert, I might agree with you. Then I'd ask where I could find that policy. Winkelvi (talk) 03:22, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. If you have a read of Help:Edit summary, you will see that an edit summary is described merely as good practice, but not as a mandatory requirement. Reversions of contentious unexplained changes, especially reversions of unexplained removals, are indeed done frequently. But there needs to be an actual reason to believe the change itself is not desirable, rather than just "no edit summary" - especially with a pretty uncontentious-looking addition where it is plainly obvious what it is and why it was done. On the whole, your enthusiasm is admirable, but I do think you're being a bit over-zealous with this article in your desire to have it deleted - and I would urge you to just step back from it a bit now and see how the AfD discussion goes. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:35, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, and I should add that it is nothing to do with the change being by an IP. IPs have exactly the same editing status as users with named accounts. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:40, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)Out of curiosity I inspected the edit. It added value to the article. I would not have reverted it. IP editors often make edits with no summary, and that is fine. My practice is to inspect them, see the value and consider my action based upon that. But I tend to inspect those of new editors, editors with redlinked talk pages, and IP editors anyway. Most of those edits are good edits. Some are not. This one was a good edit (0.9 probability), so I do not see the issue with either the reversion or the need to discuss the reversion. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 09:34, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, the irony. I forgot to leave an edit summary! Fiddle Faddle (talk) 09:40, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hehe :-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:15, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, not leaving an edit summary when talking about leaving edit summaries -- funny as well as ironic.
- Reverting the IP user because of no edit summary had nothing to do with being over-zealous or believing the article needs to be deleted. I'm hoping there's no insinuation that I am trying to sabotage the article. Thanks for the further explanation of the non-policy on edit summaries. It's appreciated. Winkelvi (talk) 22:23, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- But I tend to inspect those of new editors, editors with redlinked talk pages, and IP editors anyway. Most of those edits are good edits. Some are not. - you obviously do not watch caste-related articles, where the reverse usually applies! - Sitush (talk) 23:14, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- I watch some in that area, and I agree that the reverse replies. It seems that there are areas where partisan support of an idea is more important to transient editors that NPOV (etc). This appears to be related to a sad lack of education in some geographies coupled with a belief that local aspects are more important than a global view. That the language of this version of Wikipedia may not be their first language doesn't help. None of these things are the fault of the people making the partisan edits. I imagine it will change over the next century or so. At present the things that are held as dearly held beliefs outweigh the importance of a more rigorous view. Such thing stake time to change.
- If we take a broader view of it , though, this is a statistically significant anomaly, one that is difficult for experienced editors to work with and continue to assume good faith, but is, in reality, just an anomaly. When more experienced editors make the same mistakes, that is a kettle of fish of a very different colour, though. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 06:44, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Italics in article title
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar should not be an italicised article title but I have no idea why it is or how to fix. Modi is getting out of hand
Narendra Modi is getting out of hand. This edit summary and stuff by that user on the talk page over the last 24 hours or so is already pushing the limits, imo. We were doing quite well in keeping a lid on things there - accusations of a dodgy lead that has caused reports at BLPN, ANI and a RfC aside - but it is going to get very heated soon if this style continues. I've left a note about the edit summary but wonder if it should be revdel'd because of the Indo-Pak, Hindu/Muslim & plain old Hindutva nexus? If needs be, the actual content could be reinstated, - Sitush (talk) 08:13, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Can you please restore the page I was making about Herbert Tauss? I was hoping to submit it as a main page but did it wrong. Karen sheaKtaushea (talk) 03:28, 22 May 2013 (UTC)5/21/13
- Hi. I have restored the page to your user space at User:Ktaushea/Herbert Tauss for you to work on it. But I would caution you that the tone is not appropriate in places. A neutral Wikipedia article should not, for example, make value judgments like "Herbert Tauss's work has been on of constant reinvention, evolving on every level. His vision goes beyond purely technical skills and his sensitive line is a virtual reflection of his feelings. Whether in black-and-white or color, his work has the ability to pique the curiosity of the viewer". (I'd offer to help more, but I'm afraid I don't really have time for Wikipedia right now - see the message at the head of this page) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:46, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Jat People
Hi, I've done some edits in the intro of the article Jat People, but Sitush have reverted them. He is trying to maintain a kind of status quo in the article by using the "Non Elite Tillers" syntax from some "Dictionary term". Please take part in the consensus and provide your views regarding this.

- I don't have a lot of time right now - see the message at the head of this page. And it's also a Bank Holiday weekend in the UK this weekend. So please be patient. I have not investigated this at all, and I'll wait and see how the discussion goes. If I have time to try to help (and I can't promise I will), I might choose to take part in the content discussion, or I might choose to reserve my admin capacity to help judge consensus and oversee behavioural issues - but I can't do both. And please, Viplovecomm, have a good read of WP:NPA and be careful not to violate it. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:15, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Jatav
I saw your intervention regarding a potential personal attack that occurred on my talk. You've got enough on your plate, I know, but this sort of hot-headedness is not helping matters. It is minor stuff in the scale of things but the incidence of "my way or the highway" by that contributor over a protracted period on Chamar related articles is considerable. They are to all intents and purposes a single-purpose account and I suspect that they are a little too close to the subject to treat it impartially. When you have a moment, perhaps you could have another word? Alternatively, bollock me for being pedantic. Or do both. - Sitush (talk) 23:47, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- That general personal approach is not acceptable - I've left a further warning. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 06:59, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Restoration of Dimensionaut
Hi Boing. A few weeks ago, the Dimensionaut album page was deleted as it had not been released yet and there were no major sources covering it. As of today, the album is now available in stores worldwide, and many different sources have reviewed and/or promoted the album's release. Just this morning, BBC Wiltshire Radio did an interview with the band to promote the album. The album is also available on iTunes and Amazon now.

Do you think you could please restore the article, Boing? That would be really appreciated. Thanks. Vuzor (talk) 14:49, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) You might want to check with the folks at one of the recorded music/album project groups. They know what's acceptable for articles re: albums and when those articles would stand a chance of remaining, rather than being deleted (again). Winkelvi (talk) 15:32, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yep, checking with one of the music projects sounds like a good idea to me. So what I've done is I've restored it to a userfied copy at User:Vuzor/Dimensionaut, so you can update it with sources - then you could ask for a quick review of it there before moving it. (Oh, and I've temporarily commented out the categories while it's in user space - you can put them back when it's moved) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:39, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Restoration of Lipaglyn
Hey can you please restore the page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipaglyn. It's a knowledgeable article that i came across. You can even check the references as below : http://e-zmoneytalk.com/?p=4010 IndiaGiants (talk) 08:06, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- No, because it was a violation of copyright. Please see WP:COPYVIO to learn why you are not allowed to copy other people's copyrighted material into Wikipedia. If you wish to write an article about Lipaglyn then you will need to write it in your own words and not just copy it from elsewhere. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:41, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

I hate to disagree with your redirection of Natalie Holt. She is a viola player that has played on numerous notable albums and thus her antics don't come under WP:1EVENT. Use AfD.--Launchballer 09:43, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. I didn't redirect it - I merely declined the speedy deletion request after it had been redirected, as CSD:A7 does not apply to redirects. (I then modified the redirect as it was pointing to a non-existent section in the target). It was User:Livin'InAGhostTown who redirected it, so that's the person you should discuss it with. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:21, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

A7?
Is Somnath Bharti a CSD A7 candidate? I've raised a notability query on the talk page but A7 is a slightly different criteria. - Sitush (talk) 08:16, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure about notability, but I'd say a claim of "leading" a movement together with some references should be enough to beat A7 - the Speedy Deletion bar is pretty low. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:12, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, that was my concern. Although being called a "leader" in the Indian media is pretty vague. I'm very worried about all these AAP-related articles that are popping up because they seem to be almost a coordinated attempt to use WP for promotion and, well, this looks to me like yet another storm in the Indian political teacup, whipping up a messianic fervour that will dissipate in a couple of months' time. - Sitush (talk) 10:16, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oh well, it has blown up now. I'm off out but will try to sort the various proposed citations when I return. It seems clear that the IP is not going to get to grips with how BLPs and copyright work. - Sitush (talk) 10:30, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Southeast Asia television (& other) articles
Not sure if you remember the multiple-IP affair centred on Channel 3 (Thailand) back in 2010. I've recently come across the articles in User:DKH2010's list of contributions and they're feeling uncomfortably familiar. Articles about television and vehicle licence plates in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia have continuously been subjected to multiple poorly or unreferenced (though non-vandal) edits, often by similar IPs (as well as DKH2010), with a lot of copying from different articles (without proper attribution), including some weird cut&paste moves. S/he's also been reverting and arguing with some of the IPs. This has been ongoing for quite some time, but just trying to sift through the list of affected articles (which no one else seems to care about) is proving very tiresome, and I'm not quite sure what exactly can or should be done here. --Paul_012 (talk) 21:12, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

The image of the girl is still available on commons here Darkness Shines (talk) 12:06, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- As it's a derivative of the original and we don't have copyright status for the original (and it looks like the original was deleted for copyright reasons - but I can't see deleted stuff on Commons), I'm really not sure we can use it. But I'm no expert, so I'll leave it to others to deal with. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:14, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- The reason given for deletion was that it was a duplicate, where did it mention copyright? Perhaps I looked at the wrong file. Darkness Shines (talk) 12:23, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Just checked Image is a duplicate of an image on Commons Darkness Shines (talk) 12:34, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Basically, what I'm trying to politely say is that I don't know and I don't really care all that much - it's not an admin issue, so you'll have to deal with it yourself if you want to get it back. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 16:44, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- But for info, the original en.wiki version had been copied to Commons:File:Pashtun girl.jpg, which was deleted on 29 June as per this deletion request with the reason "EXIF-less tiny image. Original uploader to enwiki did not claim to be the author" - which suggests the authorship and therefore copyright were uncertain. Commons:File:Pashtun girl template.jpg is a derivative of the deleted original, and so will presumably suffer from the same attribution problem. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:44, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
