How can data in wikipedia showpage be different from data in source code?

Hi Addshore,

  I'm confused with that data in wikipedia showpage is different from data in source code. For example, Gosen-Neu_Zittau.

The population on show page is 2,991 (31 December 2012), while source code is "|Einwohner = 2738 |Stand = 2006-06-30". And I can't get any information about “2,991” or “31 December 2012” in source code.

As you were last person to modify the page, we have a few suggestions:

It would be preferable if the Czech version could be entitled "Evropský veřejný ochránce práv (Evropský ombudsman)". Currently, it is entitled "Evropský ombudsman" which is not the term used by the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the Statute of the European Ombudsman.

Moreover, the 2003 statistics could be replaced by more recent ones available on the Ombudsman's webpage. In particular, in 2012, the most frequent categories of complaints (on the basis of inquiries closed) were equally transparence (access to documents and information requests) and the Commission as guardian of the Treaties (see the latest annual report : http://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/en/activities/home.faces). European Ombudsman

I have a few suggestions for the Slovenian version of the European Ombudsman:

The Slovak version erroneously mentions that the European Ombudsman was created in 1992. Although the Treaty of Maastricht was in fact signed in 1992, and came into force in 1993, it would be more accurate to mention that the office was actually established only in 1995 when the first European Ombudsman was elected.

Moreover, it would be preferable if it could clearly state that complaints to the Ombudsman can be submitted by "any citizen of the Union or any natural or legal person residing or having his registered office in a Member State of the Union". The current version is confusing and does not mention citizens.

It further states that the Ombudsman carries out his activities "quite independently". It is not clear why the word "quite" is used.

In addition, the Ombudsman is "elected" by the European Parliament, not "appointed" (see Article 228 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union).

The correct spelling of the name of the first Ombudsman is "Jacob Söderman" (one "n").

@Gokufan8989: Unfortunately, infoboxes are not standardized, so wikicode that works in one doesn't work in another. Each infobox template (e.g. Template:Infobox comics character) should contain instructions on how to add an image. I would like to correct the mention that Chaser was co- trained by Alliston Reid. That is completely incorrect. He had nothing to do with teaching her language, which many publications had incorrect. There has been a long-running discussion about orphan tagging, see:

I'm trying to do a more thorough analysis, so that the third RfC on this, which I've promised, results in the best possible solution at this time.

Between you, AutoWikiBrowser, Twinkle, and User:Svick's WikiProject cleanup listing, we have a lot of tools that identify and tag orphans. The problem is, editors are just treading water with de-orphaning as the backlog isn't shrinking significantly.

What I think is needed at this point, is more and better tools and reports to assist editors in de-orphaning, like User:Edward's User:Edward/Find link tool, and perhaps even de-orphaning bots could be developed.

Editors and readers may be understandably tired of seeing the orphan messages at the top of articles at this point. I'd like to appease them by hiding the message for those who don't want to see it, while causing minimal disruption to the existing tagging systems, until better de-orphaning systems can be developed. This is indeed one thing I noticed after my first orphan task was approved (for adding the tags) I added a lot of tags but not many were being removed hence my second task of removing the tags! Where on the first run I removed a surprising amount! This must have been around the time I added the 'Progress' section to the Orphaned articles category page.

I have to say after looking at this after a year of not being very active on the Orphan front I think great progress has been made! 50,000 less articles are tagged now compared with this time last year and only 100,00o to go as a whole is a good sign! From 122,500 orphans on 13 February 2013 to 121,092 orphans on 13 February 2014 is not much of a reduction. The reduction of 52,500 between 8 January–13 February 2013 was, I'm assuming mostly all due to your bot's edits. Maybe it's time for another run of task 18? linking new articles to wikidata

Hi Addshore, is it possible to link new articles in a given Wikipedia to its corresponding wikidata entry (if it already exist, assuming article already exist in other languages), by leaving e.g. [[:en:ARTICLENAME]] at its end and then running Addbot over it. Dear Adshore - I am 'steinbeck' in the German Wikipedia and have tried to move to a global account. This worked for

Hi. Can you please explain why my bot (which is not active) had its bot flag removed? In other word, what is the benefit of removing the flag? It is not like I have violated any bot policies, or I ever would. I just find it discouraging to see the flag removed without prior notice.

@Huji:. Your bot was approved for the interwiki task here. Interwiki bots are not longer approved for use on enwiki. Please see Wikipedia:BON#Bot_that_are_inactive_for_the_last_2-4_years_and_may_lose_bot_flag. All bots that were approved for interwiki use have are now 'unapproved' and I have marked the majority of them as so today. In the process bot flags were also removed for the task as the bot again is not approved and should not be running with a bot flag. My plan is to send out an note to all bots that have had their bot removed in the next few days once I am sure that I have removed all of the flags that can / should be removed. Naturally as none of these bots have edited in the past 4 years I do not feel rushed to send this note out. Hello,

As a bureaucrat on frwiki, I was checking the activity of the bots, and noticed that yours had been inactive for at least 6 months. It is not reasonable that an unmonitored account keeps a bot flag, as it may be more easily hacked. Do you wish to keep the bot flag? If this is the case, please tell me so (preferably on my talk page on frwiki, otherwise on my talk page on this project). Without any answer from you, the bot flag will be removed in one month.

New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon

Hi addshore, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle ^connect!

Major changes:

• Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
• Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
• Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far

An important message about renaming users

Dear Addshore,

I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat.

As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully.

Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects.

The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed.

Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now.

In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename.

Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier.

Deleted article "Jeff Kent (author)"

Hello Addshore Just under two years ago, the above article was deleted. Since then, on occasions when I've had a bit of time, I've looked for independent references to the subject and have found a substantial number of them. I'd now like to put the references in the deleted article, with a view to its possible reinstatement. I've visited the article through the link you left me, but when I click "edit", only the key information in the right-hand side summary box of the article comes up. Ancestry in Weidenau

Hello, I live in the United States and my fathers grandparents families were both from the Weidenau area of Siegen. I have an extensive history book on the Hoffman and Hermann families. However, I have been unable to track down anyone currently living there. My great Grandmother was 1 of 8 kids and the only one to leave Germany for the U.S.. I jnow I have many cousins there snd was wondering if Siegen University has a professor or knows of someone who can help me track down our relatives.

Hi,

I am experiencing problems unifying my Wikipedia accounts. I was able to sign in my French Wikipedia account probably where I first made my account on the 10th of January 2006. I clicked on the global account to try to unify my accounts.

It stated that I have two other accounts one on en.wikipedia.org and one on en.wikisource.org when I enter the same passwords as for my French wikipedia accounts it says that the password is incorrect and when I try to recover the password via email I get nothing in my inbox (and junk).

Is it possible that I created the accounts back when Wikipedia did not require an email address? I am trying to unite my accounts so that I can contribute to both Wikipedias. I did not create a new account on this wikipedia in hope that I could unite my accounts. I think my IP address is dynamic and not static so it may change upon my next modification of this text. I could leave my e-mail address but if it is possible for bureaucrats to contact me on it.

About Some crab species

Hi...I'm appreciate the way you edited the crab articles in Wikipedia. But, as my opinion it is good to make a separate article to each species. One example is species within the genus Oziotelphusa. The species within this genus are redirected to the genus itself. So, it is good to make separate articles to such species, because it will make the users very easy to study them. Because there are many references and publications about those species..
