edit==GA check==
I am working my way through the Good articles listed at Places; having a quick look to see if they still meet the Good article criteria. I have landed on this article. After I've had a quick look, I'll leave a note here indicating if I have concerns or not.
In general, I see the process as this: 1) Give the article a quick look to see if there are obvious issues: maintenance tags, unsourced sections, excessive media, etc, resolving any minor issues as I do so; 2) If I have concerns, open a GAR to see how serious those concerns are, resolving them myself if they are not serious; 3) If during the GAR I feel that there is significant work to be done (more than I can or am willing to do myself), I will put the GAR on hold and notify the main contributors.
My aim and intention is to keep the article listed - I would rather the article was improved and kept listed than the article is delisted. Where a delisting seems likely due to the amount or nature of work needed being greater than I am able or willing to do alone, and the main contributors are unavailable or unable for whatever reason to do the work, then appropriate WikiProjects will be notified at least seven days before a delisting would take place. ~~~~

Talk:Example/GA2
Hi. I've opened a GAR on the Example article for which you are the/a main contributor. I have concerns that it does not quite meet current GA criteria regarding XXXX. Following the guidelines at Wikipedia:Good article reassessment, I'm letting you know in case you're interested in helping to resolve the concerns, though you are under no obligation to do anything. See Talk:Example/GA2 for more details. ~~~~
- WP:MOSIM: Images in their own section, and not sandwiching text.
- WP:IMAGE RELEVANCE: Do not use multiple similar images, do not use poor quality images, use relevant images
- MOS:BODY has this advice: "Very short or very long sections and subsections in an article look cluttered and inhibit the flow of the prose." The section can be formatted using ; instead of === to create softer headings, and ease flow when reading
- At [50 kB (8530 words)] of "readable prose", the article is right on the limit of the average concentration span so is demanding a lot of the reader, and is on the border of / over what is considered WP:TOOBIG for Wikipedia. Long articles can be off-putting for a number of readers; some people may not engage with the article due to its size, or find it tiresome to navigate for the information they want. Some serious consideration could be given to trimming this to a manageable size in order to encourage more readers to engage with it, and to make it more manageable and enjoyable for those readers who do engage with it. To balance that, there are times when an article's size is justified by the depth, range and complexity of the topic. However, to put it into context, Bulgaria is 44 kB (6953 words), China is 65 kB (10266 words)), and Malaysia is 52 kB (8281 words). ~~~~
GA article being reassessed: EXAMPLE
EXAMPLE was reviewed and listed as a Good Article in DATE. (It has been tagged with sourcing concerns since October 2012.) I have done a GAR, and I feel that the article doesn't meet current GA criteria. The main contributors have been notified, though / are unavailable or not able to do the work at the moment so / there has been no/little progress. Following the guidelines at Wikipedia:Good article reassessment, interested WikiProjects are being contacted as editing assistance may be needed to prevent the article being delisted. See Talk:EXAMPLE/GA1 for more details. If no progress is made, and nobody expresses an interest in working on the article, it is likely to be delisted after seven days have passed. ~~~~

Observations
editCommon issues noted in GA listed Places articles:
- Too many images, frequently squeezing text, and spilling over in adjacent sections. 1b - "complies with layout", which has a section on images advising against squeezing and spilling
- Images of very low quality, which could be improved with basic image editing tools (cropping to reduce redundant foreground - often roads or tarmac; lightening so the image can be seen more clearly), or better quality images could be selected from those on offer at Commons. 6b "images are relevant", which advises against low quality
- Images of the same location or of similar views. 6b "images are relevant", which advises variety, and against repetition
- Suspect this may be due to how easy it for people to take images of a location and proudly load them up onto an article regardless of quality or relevance or how many images are already in the article.
- The lead does not adequately summarise the article, and the lead paragraph tends to focus on distance to or from other locations, and size of population, rather than on the more clearly important and defining characteristics. 1b "complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections
- There are multiple short sub-sections and short paragraphs. 1b - "complies with layout", which has advice on sections: "Very short or very long sections and subsections in an article look cluttered and inhibit the flow of the prose"; and advice on paragraphs: "The number of single-sentence paragraphs should be minimized, since they can inhibit the flow of the text".
- Less frequently, the article is overly long or overly detailed. 3B "it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail"
