Greetings from Srirangam99 (Srinivasan or Cheenu)
edit- Hi, this is Srinivasan from India. Remember me?
- Now also, as was the case back then, I keep concentrating on placing reliable info on the Chola Dynasty page. Of most Chola emperors, I believe Kulothunga III (the last great Chola king, before his defeat during the end of his tenure hastened the Chola decline)is the most under-rated and under-estimated one. I have two books by K.A.N.Sastri (A history of South India and Advanced History of India) which are good in many ways, but they come up woefully short on Kulothunga III especially with regard to his relations/antagonisms with Kalachuris, Hoysalas and Kakatiyas. Could you suggest any book or weblink where I can get more information on this particular historical figure???
- I think he was a great diplomat in that he defeated Hoysala Ballala II but then made him his son in law (and thus ensured Hoysala's help during his own difficulties with the resurgent Pandyas). I saw a book in my office library which mentioned about his help to Veera Ballala II when that monarch faced difficulties against the Kalachuris and also fought with Ballala II against the last or second last Western Chalukya kings, thus hastening the decline of that kingdom. These measures of his resulted in the prolonged stability of the Cholas, though his incompetent son could do nothing to prevent the hastening downfall of the Cholas, though that occurred around 60 years or so later in 1279/80.
- But I need your help in getting info on this king, be it about some reliable book or weblink. Could you help pls.??Srirangam99 (talk) 08:33, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- One more point. I thought your fantastic bit of info in the Carnatic Music article, regarding the true meaning of the word Karnataka or Karunatakam was an absolute clincher, that finally settled the unending dispute in that article. Otherwise, it seems the naysayers and sock-puppets seemed to be having a field day back then. Congrats. Srirangam99 (talk) 08:36, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
