Urbis as the Youth meet
editClever article under alternative youth, but it really needs cleaning up. would greatly help but please help me with a couple of things:
- is the list of 200 users of urbis published anywhere?
- did you read or see any newspaper articles about urbis(manchester evening news) before you wrote this?
i do want the section to survive in some way. lots of people will see it and delete it as being an act of disinformation. Here to help Mike33 21:36, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm a youth worker who's been asked by the original poster (a young user of the space) to help on this - apologies but I've not used Wikipedia before. I appreciate some of the language is contentious - "heavy handed policing" for eample - but I believe most of the points can be evidenced.
- 221 surveys were conducted in April-May 2006 and have been collated [1] but a full report on the findings has not yet been officially released. While complex, I would say that the survey bears out the fact that young alternative people use this space because they perceive other areas as being dominated by more violent and intolerant youths ("Scallies/Chavs). Numbers of young people using the space are also documented in the council's proposed dispersal order (see below) and in photographs.
- Unaccompanied minors were excluded from the Urbis building itself, but this ban has now been lifted.
- The council have prepared a Dispersal Order, but it has not yet been imposed. The process does not currently require any consultation, therefore this is an internal council document and unavailable to the public. It has, however, been discussed by council members in open meetings for which we can provide minutes.
- Police and Street Wardens say that they are "plain clothes" rather than "undercover". Minor point but it and their operations are again documented in minutes as above.
- I can work with the original poster to edit the section, or leave it with you? Please let me know Rory coyle 09:00, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for taking your time
Thanks Rory for taking the time to reply to my objections. I have removed the tag indicating that the neutrality of the article was suspect. However, the article does need some cleaning in pages. I shall endeavour sometime this week to edit it and will paste a version on your userpage Rory coyle which you can show to one of the people who use Urbis (Cathedral Gardens). Again thanks for the references. :-) Mike33 03:52, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Funding controversy
editWe've done some adding to the pages from the Urbis POV. However, I'd like to take down the 'controversy over funding' title and incude that para in the history section. There hasn't been any controversy over funding in 2006, and its something of a past story. Any objections? VaughanAllen 09:15, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
MGS
editHave taken out the quote from Paul Wheeler of Manchester Grammar School as a) its not sourced and b)I believe it refers to the original interactives in Urbis, none of which are now in place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.108.114.98 (talk) 12:58, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Proposed Closure
editI have added a small section on the proposed relocation of the National Football Museum to the site of Urbis. I think I've written this from an objective point of view, but if not, please feel free to change as you see fit. Tong22 (talk) 21:19, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
