The Pacific expedition

edit

The Pacific expedition is single a theory and it is not accepted by most of the historians.--201.221.198.178 20:08, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is really no reason to doubt the voyage. There should be some citation of qualified historians doubting it, if this claim is made. 137.70.164.142 (talk) 16:10, 30 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Aren't references required for these claims about Polynesia?Dougweller 15:51, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't see Daude as a reliable source by our criteria at WP:RS, so I'm only discussing the first source:

According to Peruvian historian Del Busto Duthurburu, José Antonio del Busto Duthurburu : Túpac Yupanqui. Descubridor de Oceanía, 2006.

who traced a document prepared by the conquistador Gamboa, De GAMBOA, Pedro Sarmiento.: History of the Incas and The Execution of the Inca Tupac , 2007.] Inca Tupac would had actually conducted a large-scale expedition in the Pacific and visiting two islands closest to the South American continent : Mangareva, the main island of the Gambier Islands, and Easter Island.

I don't understand the bit about 'traced' as this wasn't lost so far as I know. There's a translation of it at [1]. Before this is included, we need more information. We always require page numbers from books and none were provided for the Peruvian historian's book. I'd like some quotes to see exactly what he found in de Gamboa. Thanks. It shouldn't be "Topa"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

edit

No Peruvian ever has called him "Topa", I know because I am Peruvian!!!!!!!!!!!Undead Herle King (talk) 00:17, 4 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Undead Herle King: however, this is the English language version of Wikipedia, so we use English reliable sources for the article, and they certainly do call him Topa. Doug Weller talk 09:31, 4 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Which sources? As a personal name it is used as a loanword, with the original spelling like the musician Tupaq Shakir does Undead Herle King (talk) 03:11, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Undead Herle King: [2][3][4][5] and more. Topa is used in English reliable sources, the only issue is whether the title of the article should be Topa or Tupaq. I don't know, but if you think that WP:COMMONNAME justifies a change, follow the procedure at WP:RM. Doug Weller talk 11:38, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
