Dates
editThere has been a reporting error regarding the date of death of Tom Tresh. He actually died on Wednesday morning (the 15th) at the age of 70 -- a misprint of his birth year on some baseball cards has caused confusion on his age. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.243.188.44 (talk) 14:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Correct - this stems from an error with the Yankees records which has really spread around and grown out of control. 1938 is Tom's correct birth year. FABombjoy (talk) 13:42, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
every single source that I have gone to says 1937.--Yankees10 13:48, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
I know, it's amazing how a simple clerical error can propagate. However, as one of his children, I can assure you that he was born in 1938. FABombjoy (talk) 14:16, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- There is no proof that your one of his children, there has to be a reliable source for it to be on Wikipedia, and every reliable source says 1937.--Yankees10 22:26, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Which is why I mentioned the Times below. ([1]) I will add it as a ref. While it doesn't explicitly say 1938, he only way he could have been 70 is if he was born in '38. -Seidenstud (talk) 23:36, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Most of those sources are pulls from or based on the same AP feed, and again this all stems from an error years ago that he never cared to correct. You'll notice that the Times article is based on an actual interview with family. We appreciate the diligence in correcting what people believe to be false information, but realistically finding a bona fide internet based public reference for a birth record presents a challenge. Once things have settled, if there is a wikipedia sanctioned method for providing proof of birth year that does not compromise privacy, I'll gladly post an appropriate reference.FABombjoy (talk) 20:07, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't care so much about the above OR, but the NY Times obit did say he was 70, which makes it 1938. -Seidenstud (talk) 18:15, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Just put both dates with a footnote about the discrepancies. —Wknight94 (talk) 01:21, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
MLB.com lists his birthdate as September 20, 1937. Isaac Lin (talk) 15:07, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
The last line of the first paragraph is vague: what distinction is it talking about? Of being a new Yankee shortstop replacing someone in the service? It is hard to argue that Tresh was more distinguished in general as a ballplayer than Tony Kubek. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.206.217.213 (talk) 17:37, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
