Language

edit

The production section clearly states that 20 percent of the film has dialogues. So the argument of the film NOT having language is no longer relevant. Secondly, every news source associated with this film clearly states that the film is a Malayalam-language production.2405:201:F004:D094:99B0:14A5:1192:2B03 (talk) 06:48, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

For an unreleased film, only the makers can confirm the language, NOT the media. Not every film necessarily have a "language", rather they contain dialogues spoken in various languages. A film's "language" refers to the most frequently spoken language in a films dialogues, but some films don't have such distinction. Here, the team have confirmed it contains Arabic and Malayalam dialogues and that the film has no specific language. So, there's no scope for an argument. That being the case, how did you concluded that 20% of the dialogues are in Malayalam? You are arguing based on a presupposition you made about something you don't know, which also contradicts what is cited. Wikipedia is written based on citations and not on editor's presumptions, and does not predict the future - WP:CRYSTALBALL. It is also to be noted that recently released trailer only contains Arabic dialogues. It is also unknown whether it is made in English too. In any case, you don't have anything to confirm your contradicting claim.--The Doom Patrol (talk) 19:30, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Composer A. R. Rahman and director Blessy have confirmed on record that this is a Malayalam-language production.2405:201:F004:D0B2:4D94:C63B:2DC2:7A16 (talk) 03:51, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Provide a source that directly quotes the makers stating that the film primarily features "Malayalam-language" - WP:RS/WP:CS. The current source opposes this claim and rejects any distinction based on language.--The Doom Patrol (talk) 10:19, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Here are two SOURCES. The first one has DIRECTOR BLESSY referring to it as a Malayalam language film. The second one has composer A. R. Rahman referring to it as a Malayalam language film. 1-: (At 03:18) 2- 2405:201:F004:D0B2:4D94:C63B:2DC2:7A16 (talk) 12:50, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
No. They only mention about the "film industry" - Malayalam cinema. None of these sources says the "primary language is Malayalam". Template:Infobox film clearly says "Insert the language primarily used in the film". The crew explicitly stated the film has no distinct language.--The Doom Patrol (talk) 14:41, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Note: The IPs and User:KurnoolBombayXpress has been blocked as a sockpuppet of User:Kichappan. Merely citing passing mentions with confirmation bias is inadequate to dispute a quoted reference from the crew stating that the film has no language distinction, unless one can present another quote that designates Malayalam as the "primary language used in the film". In the event that one provide such a source, WP:THISORTHAT will be followed. Until then, language remains excluded. The Doom Patrol (talk) 09:20, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Alternate title

edit

As mentioned in his official statement by actor Prithviraj, Goat Life is only the English title for the FESTIVAL circuit, just like Satyajit Ray's films. The official production title is 'Aadujeevitham'.2405:201:F004:D0B2:35B4:675A:65D6:1CCD (talk) 18:32, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

If it is confirmed by Prithviraj, then the English title (made for festival or not) is OFFICIAL. You cannot remove that. Film's website is also titled www.thegoatlifefilm.com.--The Doom Patrol (talk) 19:30, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 29 March 2024

edit
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Evidence is lacking in this discussion, but it has seen substantial participation and the !support votes are based in policy (implicitly WP:COMMONNAME and WP:UE), while the !oppose votes are implicitly based in an argument that policy, in WP:COMMONNAME, rejects.

As neither side disputes the assertions of the other side, I see a consensus to move this discussion both on the strength of argument and level of support. (closed by non-admin page mover) BilledMammal (talk) 04:31, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Aadujeevitham (film)The Goat Life – The page was moved without discussion by KLDE123. The official title of the movie is The Goat Life, which is also per the official website. I propose the revert of the move. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 13:49, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Support The international title of the movie is The Goat Life, and Aadujeevitham is the malayalam title. Wikipedia titles are preferably English too, so in my opinion, The Goat Life is the more appropriate title 2A00:F28:FF02:D994:1:0:64B8:A1AC (talk) 16:34, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
The movie is referred as "Aadujeevitham" multiple times in the Pooja ceremony. The movie name is written as "Aadujeevitham" in the Director's clapboard in the ceremony. In the Behind The Scenes video, the name is written as "Aadujeevitham" on the clapboard in the initial scene of the video. • Oppose: The official title of the film is Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life. That's how it has been released in Australia, where I watched it. In fact, in certain venues in the United States, it is simply referred to as Aadujeevitham. A quick Google search will show you that this is the case in most countries.(Wayfarer Pacifist (talk) 23:34, 29 March 2024 (UTC))Reply

Please use English. This is the English Wikipedia, and that is the only language that people here are expected to understand. — BarrelProof (talk) 06:55, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oppose, title it as Aadujeevitham : the Goat life ( 2024 Malayalam film )

Oppose Official title is Aadujeevitham, film is censored with this tile. 'The Goat Life', the English title, is mainly for film festivals.

  • Support. I get more than 27 million ghits for The Goat Life [1] and the first few pages all look relevant, against 29 million for Aadujeevitham [2] so equally common. However I think The Goat Life is far more recognisable. As an aside, what does Aadujeevitham mean in English? Our articles don't seem to say (have I missed it?) and should. Also noting

Appears to be an undiscussed bold move, edit summary is not a valid reason so this could be simply reverted. But this RM now will hopefully bring stability. Andrewa (talk) 16:32, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Andrewa: Regarding your comment about a "bold move" of 29 March 2024‎, please look a little earlier in the history and see my comment above. That was a revert of someone else's bold move. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:31, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
But that's not what the edit summary says, is it? Andrewa (talk) 05:18, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I suppose not, but I think we should pay attention to what people are doing at least as much as what they are saying about why they are doing it. Whatever reason they gave, it was a revert. — BarrelProof (talk) 05:38, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Aadujeevitham means The Goat Life only. It's just a direct translation from Malayalam. Implying the life of man living with goats and suffering like a goat, so much so that he kind of transforms into a goat (figuratively). Heights of literature, IMO. The opening sentence says it so. Thanks. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 16:49, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
That may be a good reason not to put both of them in the title. We generally try to avoid redundant titles. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:31, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

This film talks about an incident that happened in Saudi Arabia but the article talks about "thousands of Indians who were forced into slavery in Saudi Arabia as goatherds on secluded farms in the deserts by the native Arabs". The article does not provide any reliable source for this number of victims. Also the article accuses all Arabs of practicing slavery.

This is an attempt to incite hatred against all Arabs by generalizing a specific incident to hundreds of millions of Arabs. The article must be modified or supported with evidence that all Arabs practice slavery against Indians. Safwanqasem (talk) 11:58, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
