New home in Hamburg

edit

According to German media Doherty lives in Hamburg now. Although some sources say that he would plan to move there and others that he had been there "for some weeks". Couldn`t find anything in English yet, the German articles are just one or two days old: http://www.infranken.de/ueberregional/vermischtes/art102843,679233 ; http://www.radiohamburg.de/VIP/VIP-News/Stars-international/2014/April/Pete-Doherty-Britischer-Skandalrocker-wohnt-jetzt-in-Hamburg ; http://www.gala.de/stars/story/pete-doherty-das-herz-schlaegt-auf-st-pauli_1079127.html ; http://www.ok-magazin.de/people/news/25710/pete-doherty-zieht-nach-hamburg---92.227.135.7 (talk) 06:25, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

He passed the drug test

edit

I added this, since he passed the drug test: (after serving just over 4 weeks of a 14-week sentence). He described prison life as "a lot of gangsters" and showed a certificate confirming he had passed a drugs test while inside.afp.google.com, British bad boy rocker Doherty released early from jail--Florentino floro (talk) 11:00, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article name

edit

Although in the tabloid media he's often known as 'Pete', all music credits are to "Peter Doherty", and Mr Doherty himself has also said he prefers to be called 'Peter'. Would it make sense to move this article from being called 'Pete Doherty' to 'Peter Doherty'? Pullshapes (talk) 22:21, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Well, we have already 3 articles with the title 'Peter Doherty'. Either we keep it 'Pete Doherty' or we change it to 'Peter Doherty (musician)'. I'd prefer the first over the second. And anyway, just because Doherty currently prefers 'Peter' over 'Pete', doesn't mean we should immediately change this article's name. Malfacteur (talk) 01:24, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I know, hence why I also mentioned music credits and the like. On front of CD covers (for example see For Lovers), and well, on all things official/professional, he's credited as Peter. Live shows which he plays solo also feature 'Peter' e.g. 'An evening with Peter Doherty'... it's a while since the shows have passed so finding links to the official flyers could take a while, but the reviews here and here mention this. Pullshapes (talk) 01:39, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
To be perfectly honest, I don't care much whether it'll stay 'Pete' or become 'Peter'. However, it appears to me that it's not really necessary to change the article name because 'Pete' is a form of 'Peter' and not a totally different name. And even though it's officially 'Peter Doherty' this man is more commonly known as 'Pete Doherty' to the public. And that his birth name is 'Peter', that is mentioned in the article and the infobox. Malfacteur (talk) 09:14, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's been long enough now, surely this should be "Peter"? Turkeyphant 12:59, 8 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth

edit

Peter Dohertys birthday is actually the 29th of March and not the 12th as shown on the main page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashbrown5989 (talkcontribs) 11:44, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Personal life section

This is no more gossip than him passing, failing or taking drug tests. Is all referenced and factual. Stop taking unilateral action. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Talkshowbob (talkcontribs) 13:52, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hearsay about his reputation and some speculating about a possible new girlfriend = gossip. THIS IS AN ENCYCLOPEDIC article and not the Potty Pete fanpage! (Him failing drug tests resulted in imprisonment and much media attention worldwide btw.) Malfacteur (talk) 14:33, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Your view -on its own- dose not create a concencus. So i have reverted it. I don’t see how its “hearsay” about his reputation, just that he has picked up a lot of interest in Reading. Seems as relevant to the article as where he is currently living, or well the fact that its rented, and who its rented off. Shall we start putting everyone’s landlords into their wiki entries?--81.159.89.230--Prophesy (talk) 01:37, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
That part about where he is currently living ... neither did I add it nor do I think it's relevant for the article. Should be deleted. He's seeing a local girl .. pffft... you read such made up stories once per week in many tabloids. The article that serves as source reads "Doherty is rumoured to be dating a girl who lives in West Reading". That's tabloid gossip at it's best! And the fire at Reading Festival: "Pete Doherty is believed to have alerted the fire brigade after spotting the blaze" says the source. Therefore it's a just a rumor. I'll delete it now and if you readd it I'll just contact a administrator and let them handle this. Malfacteur (talk) 14:12, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the above posters, this was a relevant passage. As Prophesy points out your view on its own dose not make a consensus, wiki is not built on one person pushing there ideas over the crowd and editing without a discussion here as you have been doing. I feel that both sections are as relevant as anything else in the under the same heading. Wiki is not like a normal encyclopedia, it has much wider scope. I think it should be reinstated and I feel that until others complain that that paragraph is unencyclopedic you should leave it alone.--195.26.60.43 (talk) 17:47, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It says in that Pete had a catholic upbringing, this is untrue as his father is a catholic but does not attend mass. He used to attend church but then he stopped. He didn't have a catholic or Christian upbringing. Please remove this —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.16.121.7 (talk) 08:52, 4 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Peter DID have a Catholic up-bringing/family environment along with influences from his mother's side (her father was Jewish.) Hence his crossing himself, references to God, Christ, wearing a crucifix and usage of rosaries. Ask him. Also, he is NOT a Scientologist. "Dating" one or reading books regarding this religion does not make one a Scientologist. Call or write Mr. Doherty to confirm that this is a falsehood printed as "fact" in Wikipedia. This is the sort of irresponsible nonsense that casts doubt on the accuracy of Wikipedia. The two articles cited as "evidence" of Peter being a Scientologist are absolute rubbish if they're setting out to prove he is a Scientologist, as he would tell you himself. Please DELETE the listing at the END of the article where it states without doubt that his is a Scientologist until you have contacted him. False statements. Fail.

This person's right, i too was surprised and looked into those articles cited, all they do is suggest he's been reading scientology due to his girlfriend (now ex), they also qualify the statements adding hes been looking into a whole range of different beliefs. If he really was a scientologist, surely he'd be open about it and be shouting it from the rooftops with pride as most converts to the religion do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.180.130.252 (talk) 06:01, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Unless anyone can provide evidence is is a MEMBER of the church, i am going to delete / amend the section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.180.130.252 (talk) 06:05, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please correct article. He has russian descent. In the end of August, he was in Russia and has given interview russian MTV. He said what his mother half russian. His maternal grandmother is Russian. I've added a passing reference to his bisexuality. This seems to be common knowledge and does not seem to made a big deal of in the media, but would appreciate anyone coming forward with more robust sources if they exist. Doherty's time as a rent boy (with men or "old lonely queens" as he called them) certainly seems strongly sourceable, but that in itself would not of course make him bisexual in the strict sense of the word. Contaldo80 (talk) 13:52, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is he bisexual, or is it that he used to be merely gay for pay? Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 21:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Don't know. I can't find any reputable sources that repeat the rent boy story other than the biography by Pete Walsh. Who knows what is true and how much is "teasing" and titillation designed to provide a mystique? Contaldo80 (talk) 09:04, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ref 51 is an article from a reputable source which cites the biography; Doherty admitted to having been a rent boy. The only dispute is his sexual orientation. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 18:04, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Where does his money come from?

edit

With no discernable commercial success, how can he afford "a nine-bedroomed red-brick Georgian house on the outskirts of Marlborough, Wiltshire - the house is leased from Lord Cardigan."? DavidFarmbrough (talk) 20:13, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean? He's had several top twenty hits, he gets 1-2 grand for pub gigs, he gets thousands for interviews, he plays all the summer festivals.

Grace/Wastelands

edit

"On 13 January 2008 NME.COM announced that Doherty's solo album, entitled Grace/Wastelands would be released on March 16 [...]" is wrong. It was on 13 January 2009.--Fbbaar (talk) 09:57, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Origin: London, England?

edit

If he was born in Hexham and spent most of his life outside London, why is his origin given as "London, England"? Or is "origin" just the place where he started his music career? 217.155.20.163 (talk) 19:03, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The origin in musician infobox has been disputed on several articles. I understand it as being where the subject began their career as a musician, which in Doherty's case was London. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 21:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Doherty sings Nazi song at performance in Germany

edit

BERLIN (AFP) - Rocker Pete Doherty was hauled off stage at a weekend music festival in Germany after he began signing Nazi anthem "Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles" during his set, reports said on Monday.

Revellers at the on3 festival in Munich booed and shouted at Doherty, but he carried on singing until organisers removed him from the stage, Bavaria's TZ newspaper reported.

Doherty's tirade was broadcast live on Bavarian public radio, the festival's organisers.

"We decided to stop Peter Doherty's appearance on stage as quickly as possible," organisers Bayerischer Rundfunk said in a statement.

It is the latest in a long line of controversies for the 30-year-old Babyshambles singer, whose career has been marred by drug use and jail time.

The lines come from the first verse of the "Song of Germany" and this verse was used as the national anthem under the Nazis.

While the verse is not banned in Germany, it has not been sung since World War II because of its close links with Adolf Hitler.

Why is there no mention of this anywhere in the article? See, for example, "CCTV suggests death fall Mark Blanco probably 'dropped'" at the BBC website. Under Family and personal life there is the following line :

"After numerous attempts to convince him to start a serious rehab, in early 2005 Doherty's father decided he was tired of broken promises and vowed not to see his son again until the latter was clean of drugs."

Use of the phrase "the latter" here is unnecessary as there is not a list to reference. This should be replaced by either "he" (It is already established in the sentence that the drug addiction is Petes) or by his name (Pete / Doherty /Pete Doherty). 89.100.127.148 (talk) 16:41, 17 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
