Liberalism sources

edit

@M0rphD0g00: Here you entered the claim that Pelosi still widely is considered as a liberal, right before a source for another statement. However, that source does not support your claim. In fact, it rather seems to claim the opposite:

"For example, Pelosi, a co-founder of the CPC once on the liberal vanguard, is now far from one of the Democratic caucus’ most left-leaning members."

M0rphD0g00, I move your contribution to a position after that source. I suspect that you didn't read the source for a check of your statement, but rather have it from other sources. I leave the statement as it is, but I'll put in a template {{Citation needed}} after it. After you've found some reliable sources which support your claim, please add them after your statement, and remove the Citation needed template! Citation needed is not necessary. It is a known fact and there are plenty of items on the page without citations. M0rphD0g00 (talk) 03:04, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
This does not fall under WP:BLUE. EvergreenFir (talk) 05:05, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes it is, and no it is not. That is an opinion, not a fact (and is thus wp:or. Slatersteven (talk) 11:28, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
What does liberalism have to do with left-wing politics? Per the main article that is the umbrella term for anti-capitalist ideologies, including the "labour movement, socialism, anarchism, communism, Marxism and syndicalism". Dimadick (talk) 11:21, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Dimadick: I just quoted the "reliable source" (in this case a Huffpost article). You'll have to ask the Huffpost editor (Daniel Marans) about why he connects "left-wing" and "liberal". Regards, JoergenB (talk) 14:01, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
First off, one source is not "widely" it does not say she is regarded as a liberal it in fact seems to say the opposite (see wp:v. Slatersteven (talk) 14:07, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

So in 2021 her net worth was 7.5 times what it was in 2018?

edit

Seems unlikely, but definitely worth mentioning if it's true. I doubt Warren buffet, or anybody else in the country, saw an increase like that in just three years. 2604:3D09:D78:1000:E060:3D08:890A:C1DF (talk) 21:26, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

"Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has an estimated net worth of $252.60 million based off her holdings in companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Netflix, according to Quiver Quantitative." I think related to this question is that the Early Career section starts out with her joining the DNC. That's her political career, but what did she do for actual employment, if anything? Was she a lawyer, did she work at a restaurant or what? "Focused on raising her family, Pelosi stepped into politics as a volunteer for the Democratic Party in the 1960s." Ok, she was a housewife and stay at home mom? Fair enough. It seems like what job(s) she held that provided a paycheck is relevant to "Early Career" (and puts the present Talk section into perspective) and should have preceded the initial paragraph. For comparison, during her campaign Kamala Harris cited her employment with McDonald's. I think readers would like to know what occupied Pelosi during that missing space between college and "DNC Member," and even what private sector jobs she may have done while a DNC Member. Put even more simply, we can establish a baseline and a trajectory from house wife/stay at home mom to a net worth of $252 million, while only being a government employee the whole time. Now, in the Financial Status section toward the bottom, it is stated that, "Pelosi's husband, Paul, is a wealthy investor and the primary source of the couple's wealth," so it could be she has never actually held a private sector job. giggle (talk) 23:13, 29 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ryan White CARE Act

edit

The source cited for her co-authorship of the Ryan White CARE Act of 1990 does not mention her status as an author. She is often cited an important proponent of the act but does not have proven authorship, at least on accessible sources. She is not listed a sponsor or cosponsor of S.2240, the bill that was passed, on congress.gov. She might be listed in the bill itself. 150.243.217.74 (talk) 03:43, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
