Counter Exhibition in Paris to the 1931 Colonial Exhibition. Titled La Vérité sur les Colonies (Truth on the Colonies), it was open to the public on September 19, 1931 and lasted until 1932, but had very limited success, especially compared to the official exhibition which was a huge success. This counter exhibition was organized by the communists, and was divided into three sections. The first one is a retrospective of colonization, and displays the crime of the colonial conquests. The colonial troops (tirailleurs) which died in Europe during the First World War are mentioned, as well as Albert Londres or André Gide's testimonies on forced labour. In the second room, entirely dedicated to the USSR, the organizators opposed to "imperialist colonialism the example of the nationalities' policy applied by the Soviets". The visit ends with a presentation of the cultural problems lifted by colonialism. Logo of exhibition, fair use.
