The Imatiou Anthropou (IA) Society is a secret society for seniors at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.

History

edit

Millsaps IA began in 2004 under the supervision of Dean Brit Katz. Katz served as the college's vice-president and senior dean for student life and assistant professor of education for 16 years. The organization has continued to run with anonymity since its birth.

Membership & Activity

edit

IA is made up of 7 seniors from Millsaps College. These seniors pass down membership each year through secret ceremonies. They are known to conduct meetings at late hours at an undisclosed location.

Their public activities have consisted of campus-wide scavenger hunts, giveaways, and other surprises or harmless pranks to benefit the student body. However, much of the activities performed by this organization remains a mystery to the student body, faculty, and staff. IA's purpose remains an enigma as well, and students have speculated about their involvement in "spying" on other students and reporting behavior to administration[1]. Yet, the history of IA and its members have shown its dedication to bettering the student body.

The Senior Members of IA are revealed on their graduation day, as the seniors can be found wearing pins with the IA symbol. These outgoing members also take a picture as a group in front of the bell tower in their caps and gowns to commemorate their completion of their roles in the society[2].

Symbols

edit

This secret society is known for leaving their mark on its college campus in more ways than one. Their infamous logo is a combination of white letters of "I" and "A" set on a purple background matching the school's colors. Throughout the school year, this logo can be found on the sidewalks across campus or on posters in the student union

In addition, IA adorns its social media and banners with the phrase, "Always Watching." This phrase contributes to the idea of secrecy, but its true meaning is unknown. In addition, the society uses the phrase, "for a better us" in social media posts and attached to their activities on campus.
