"Classy 101" is a song by the Colombian singer-songwriter Feid and the Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko from Feid's second extended play (EP), Ferxxocalipsis (2023). Salomón Villada (Feid), Miko, Wain and Bonaroti wrote the song with its producers Caleb Calloway, Mauro and Julia Lewis. Since Miko began her professional career with Calloway as producer, she attracted the attention of several artists who shared the stage and collaborated with her, and became viral on TikTok with two songs. She initially composed the song in Los Angeles until she surprisingly met Villada there, having no contact with him before and being always his fan. Universal Music Latino released the song as a single on March 31 with the premiere of its music video and later included it in Ferxxocalipsis on December 1.

Music journalists praised "Classy 101" and described it as a reggaeton with a minimalist sound and an edgy perreo fusion that talks about a carnal desire linked to lust. The song was also ranked on lists as one of the best Latin songs of 2023. It reached the top 10 in twelve countries and was certified platinum in Brazil, Mexico, Spain and the US. The song was Miko's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Deathofgian directed the music video for the song, which portrays a couple in love riding a motorcycle and shows Miko and Feid singing in different scenarios. It won a Los 40 Music Award, a Lo Nuestro Award and two Latin American Music Awards. The song was included on the set list of Miko and Villada's headlining concert tours, and was performed at the Los 40 Music Awards and at several music festivals.
Background and release
editIn 2021, the Puerto Rican producer Caleb Calloway and Angelo Torres founded their own record label, the Wave Music Group.[1] Calloway has been the Young Miko's manager and producer since her beginnings in her professional career.[1][2] After the success of "105 Freestyle", her debut single, Miko began attracting the attention of several artists.[2][3][4] In 2022, she shared the stage with the Puerto Rican rappers Bad Bunny and Villano Antillano, and the Colombian singer Karol G.[4][5] In 2022 and 2023, she made many collaborations with another artists —including Arcángel ("Kilimanjaro") and Yandel ("Cuando Te Toca")—, and released "Riri" and "Lisa", her viral songs through TikTok from her first studio album, Trap Kitty (2023).[3][4] In an interview with El Hormiguero, Miko stated that she initially composed "Classy 101" while she was in Los Angeles, where she met Salomón Villada (Feid).[6] She clarified that she had not composed for him nor had there been any contact with him before and she was always his fan.[6] She described the process as "super-natural", and added that "it was very easy to flow with him."[6]
During Villada's concert tour, Ferxxo Nitro Jam Tour, he announced and released "Remix Exclusivo" on March 17, 2023 through Universal Music Latino.[7][8][9] Two weeks later, after Villada's concert in Lima, Peru, part of Ferxxo Nitro Jam Tour, the song was released on March 31 as a single through Universal Latino.[10][11] On August 24 of the same year, he announced on Instagram his sixth studio album, Mor, No Le Temas a la Oscuridad, preceded by their singles released after "Classy 101" ("Niña Bonita", "Vente Conmigo", "Ferxxo 151" and "Bubalu").[12][13][14][15] The album was released on September 29.[16] On November 29, he announced his second EP, Ferxxocalipsis, as a surprise release and sharing, "I want you to enjoy it as it is, during Ferxxo's favorite month!! I'm thankful to everyone that was a part of this, Colombia has so much to show and this is just another piece of that!!!" [sic];[16][17] he also revealed its track listing, where the song is placed at number ten.[18][19]
Composition and reception
edit"Classy 101" is three minutes and 15 seconds long.[20] According to the liner notes of Ferxxocalipsis, Villada, Miko, Wain and Bonaroti wrote the song with its producers, Caleb Calloway, Mauro and Julia Lewis.[21] It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Wain at 24k Mastering in Los Angeles, and EARCANDY helped him for mixing.[21] Lyrically, SDP Noticias' Alexa Strada said that "[Classy 101] talks about a carnal desire [...] it is implied that she wants to have an encounter with this person who incites her to physical enjoyment [...] this provocative figure is spoken of as a person who goes beyond the romantic and goes straight to staring and flirting."[22] Los 40's Miguel Ángel Bargueño named the song as "a reggaeton with a minimalist sound and relentless rhythm that invites you to twerk."[23] "Classy 101" was included on Billboard's list of the best Latin songs of 2023 so far, ranking it at number eight and writing that "the hard-hitting, edgy perreo fusion laces Feid's distinct vocals and Miko's dulcet range for a song about a girl who's so fine that it's impossible to ghost her."[24] Los Angeles Times also included the song in their year-end list of the 23 Best Latin music songs of 2023 at number 20, describing its chorus as "simply, hilariously, kind of aspirational."[25]
"Classy 101" peaked in the top 10 on charts of Chile (2),[26] Colombia (2),[27] Peru (2),[28] Costa Rica (3),[29] Dominican Republic (3),[30] Ecuador (3),[31] Honduras (3),[32] El Salvador (4),[33] Bolivia (6),[34] Argentina (9),[35] Panama (9)[36] and Paraguay (9).[37] The song initially debuted at number two at the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart for the week ending April 29, 2023;[38] it topped the chart for two weeks since the week ending May 20.[39] On June 16, the song entered at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 due to an increase of 11% to 5.5 million streams and to 1.5 million audience impressions in the United States, being Miko's first entry on the chart and Villada's third entry.[40][41] In the same week, it also climbed four spots to number 15 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, five to number 24 on the Billboard Global 200 (streaming increasing 7% to 33.5 million) and three to number 19 on the Global Excl. US.[40] The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the single 19× Platinum, which denotes 1.14 million units based on sales and track-equivalent on-demand streams according to Latin criteria.[42] In Spain, it peaked at number six in the national chart and received a 6× Platinum certification from the Productores de Música de España (PROMUSICAE).[43] In Mexico, it peaked at number 17 in Mexico Songs chart and received a platinum certification from the Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON).[44][45]

Miko is found stroking a woman's hair in a room and in a bar with several women dancing and drinking around her.[47] Villada is found inside a car and inside a room with a woman lying in bed. The two are shown around a car and inside a hotel. In all the scenes Villada and Miko sing along the song. It also portrays a couple in love who travels on a motorcycle throughout the video.
Live performances and usage
edit"Classy 101" was included on the set list of two of Miko's headlining concert tours: the Trap Kitty World Tour (2023)[a] and the XOXO Tour (2024).[56] The Dominican singer Nickzzy included a line of the song on "Chula".[57] At the 18th Los 40 Music Awards, Villada and Miko performed the song live together, where he also performed "Bubalu".[58][59] The song was performed by Miko on her show at the Coca-Cola Flow Fest.[60] In 2024, it was on the setlist of Villada's shows at the Lollapalooza Chile, Lollapalooza Argentina and Festival Estéreo Picnic.[61][62][63] Miko performed it at her shows in Mexico (Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City).[64][65] She performed it later at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 12 and the Fuego Fuego Latin Music Festival on May 26.[66][67] The song was part of the set list of Villada's headlining concert tour, the Ferxxocalipsis World Tour (2024).[68]
