Checkmates
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
In a game of chess, each piece is restricted to their own set of tiles. The rook can move orthogonally, the bishop can move diagonally, etc. But pair up your pieces as "checkmates," and your rook can move while your bishop attacks!
As you recruit new pieces, you'll explore new checkmates. Knight x Rook! Queen x Knight!! Pawn x Bishop!!! I ship it.

What a wonderful mechanic! It can definitely be a whole game. There's a bug at the final round, pawn art shows when you hover at the queen. I was confused with its movements, turns out the name says queen.
