🌿 With the participation of over 5,000 visitors and viewers both in person and online via social media platforms, along with 70 exhibitors, discover the activities of the third edition of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Festival in Fayoum Governorate! The festival aims to foster collaboration between Egyptian companies and leading countries in the field, facilitating the exchange of expertise to further sector development. It focuses on several key areas, including adding value by improving production and manufacturing processes and enhancing the integration of the value chain for medicinal and aromatic plants, from cultivation to final products. The festival brought together all key players in the medicinal and aromatic plants sector to showcase their products and innovations. The event featured six technical sessions and seven "Ask the Experts" sessions, designed to support companies and farmers in exploring strategies to open new markets, adopt modern innovations, and improve export processes. The sessions also concentrated on improving cultivation techniques for medicinal and aromatic plants, increasing productivity and quality, ensuring food safety, and presenting available digital and financial solutions to enhance the sector's efficiency and competitiveness. Empowering Agricultural Cooperatives in Beheira Governorate with Water-Saving Techniques🚜 🌾 GIZ Egypt is empowering agricultural cooperatives in Beheira Governorate by providing them with new tools and skills aimed at helping smallholder farmers embrace water-saving techniques to enhance productivity. The distribution of cutting-edge equipment to these cooperatives was a significant milestone. Noteworthy attendees at the event included key partners from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR), the Agricultural Directorate of Beheira, and board members of the beneficiary cooperatives. Through the Nile Delta Management Programme, we trained and supported six cooperatives in Mahmoudiyah, Abu Homs, Kafr El Dawar, and Rahmaniyah, equipping them with tailored business models focused on water conservation. Essential tools such as agricultural waste shredders, planting machines, irrigation station maintenance units, and soil salinity devices were provided to enhance these services. This initiative is part of broader efforts to support cooperatives through the institutional support programme for agricultural cooperatives across four governorates. We're also enhancing the digital capacity of extension centres, launching awareness campaigns, establishing geographic information system (GIS) units, and promoting the involvement of civil society and women's groups to foster sustainable development, while also implementing solar-powered modern irrigation pilots 🌱 The Nile Delta Water Management Programme (NDWM) is implemented by GIZ Egypt on behalf of the German Government in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. Empowering Future Innovators: Training Teachers in Leather and Footwear Production In a significant step toward enhancing technical education, 30 dual system teachers successfully completed a comprehensive training programme on leather and footwear production. Hosted at the Faculty of Home Economics at Helwan University, this hands-on experience allowed educators to master leather production techniques and utilise specialised equipment, culminating in the creation of their own leather products, including wallets, keychains, and shoes. This training was made possible through a collaboration between Consultation, Training and Quality Systems (CTQS for Training) company, the Technical and Vocational Education Teachers Academy (TVETA), and the Central Administration for Technical Education Development under the Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MoETE). With leather exports reaching $114 million in 2023, the leather industry plays a significant role in Egypt's economy. Investing in teacher training is crucial for nurturing skilled graduates who can propel the sector forward and fulfill its increasing demands, particularly by fostering sustainable and innovative practices. The training program, part of the Employment Promotion Project (EPP) implemented by GIZ Egypt on behalf of the German Government, aims to equip technical education teachers with the skills necessary to develop future talents capable of driving Egypt’s transition to a green economy. GIZ  Egypt Hosts a Session on Citizen Participation at the Digital Public Infrastructure Summit!    We are thrilled to announce that the Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Egypt within GIZ will be hosting a session titled “Citizen Participation in Digital Public Infrastructure: A Multistakeholder Dialogue” at the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Summit held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital on Thursday October 3rd from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM EEST.  The session will host a panel discussion between different stakeholders followed by a “World Cafe”, an interactive session with participants that will take on the topics of citizen readiness to participate in DPI, developing citizen participation mechanisms and Citizen-Labs. Three on-site facilitators will leverage the dialogue and input to derive meaningful findings through collaborative exercises.  The Digital Transformation Center is a global initiative by GIZ that is present in more than 22 countries including Egypt. The DTC Egypt tackles the sectors of: Digital Government, Digital Economy, Women in Tech, AI and Digital Policies through the long-standing partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology as well was the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. In collaboration with Information Technology Industry Development Agency, ITIDA, Industrial Modernization Centre, IMC, Egypt , and Siemens Egypt, GIZ managed to support the Industry 4.0 Innovation Center in the New Administrative Capital, in addition to taking key stakeholders on an exciting journey, including a hands-on bootcamp in Germany. There, participants explored real-world applications of Industry 4.0 and learned from top experts in the field. Now, we’re training stakeholders to become certified SIRI (Smart Industry Readiness Index) assessors for the first time in Egypt, equipping them with the tools to lead Egypt’s industrial future. 🌍 Making Urban Development Climate-Resilient 🌱  With the aim to mainstream urban climate resilience in Egypt, GIZ Egypt in collaboration with a team of international and national consultants just concluded a 2-year engagement with the Urban Development Fund (U.D.F) and the @General Organisation for Physical Planning (GOPP). The partnership resulted in the development of two urban planning and upgrading instruments, which will help GOPP and UDF to identify and address urban climate risks.  First piloted in Alexandria Governorate, both instruments complement each other in assessing climate vulnerabilities on the governorate level while providing guidance for the implementation of local climate adaptation solutions. The two instruments will enable GOPP to develop climate vulnerability profiles for Egypt’s 27 Governorates and will support UDF in building local resilience action plans for its urban upgrading projects.
